Congratulations to Intellectual Property (IP) Partner, Angela B. Freeman (she/her/hers), for her recognition in the WIPR - World IP Review (WIPR) Diversity’s Top 100 2024 list. In this worldwide publication, industry professionals who drive positive change in the IP community are celebrated. IP practitioners nominated candidates, which were combined with marketplace research to identify those who had exceptional contributions in four categories: Influential Women, Diversity Champions, Trailblazers and Change Drivers. While Angela was qualified for each of the categories, this year she was recognized in the category of Influential Women - women who have more than a decade of IP experience, have garnered significant professional achievements and/or made an impact in promoting diversity and inclusion in the sector. After her first career as a molecular biologist, Angela became a thriving practitioner in the area of patent law becoming the first African-American female attorney to practice patent law at Barnes & Thornburg LLP in 2013. Throughout her science and legal careers, she has promoted diversity, particularly the issue of women from diverse backgrounds being involved in #STEM subject areas. Recently, Angela helped drive the firm’s participation and support in the @Patent Pathways program, which aims to educate 20 African-American women annually to help them pass the US Patent Registration Exam (the patent bar) and become patent agents.
