The world of athletics mourns the loss of a promising young talent, Emilia Brangefält, whose achievements transcended her youth. Born on May 10, 2002, she was a mere 21 years old when she made an indelible mark on the global stage, clinching a bronze medal in the 2022 Marathon of the World Mountain Trail Running held in Chiang Mai.

At this year’s Innsbruck World Championship Emilia once again demonstrated her tenacity and achieved a creditable fifth position. She is ahead of great athletes such as her compatriot Emelie Forsberg (eighth).

However, the news of Emilia Brangefält’s untimely demise has cast a somber shadow over the athletic community. While the official reasons for her passing have not been disclosed, initial reports from various media outlets suggest that she may have taken her own life, purportedly due to depression stemming from a recent diagnosis of heart disease.

On November 4, Emilia had shared her struggles, revealing that her resting heart rate ranged between 120 and 150 beats per minute, an alarming condition that had led to her withdrawal from several competitions. This revelation hinted at the challenges she faced, shedding light on the silent battle she fought against both physical and emotional obstacles.
