Agassi, Shai

Shai Agassi is a member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, the world's largest inter-enterprise software company, and the world's third largest independent software supplier. Prior to his appointment to the Executive Board in 2002, he was CEO of two wholly-owned subsidiaries: SAP Portals and SAP Markets. As a software entrepreneur, his responsibilities include leading and extending the company's commitment to collaborative application solutions.

Prince Mohammed Al Faisal is President of Al Faisaliah Group Holding, a leading Saudi conglomerate established in 1969 and active in six key sectors: food and beverages; consumer electronics and computers; medical, measurement and media equipment; IT and communications; entertainment and multimedia; petrochemicals and plastics. He was previously Vice-President at the Al Faisaliah Group, and before that Assistant General Manager and Manager at the Saudi American Bank. Earlier he had worked at Citibank in New York and the Saudi American Bank in Saudi Arabia. He received a BSc in Industrial Management from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mining, and an MBA from Harvard University.



Al Faisal, Bandar Bin Khalid
Publisher and Chairman, AlWatan newspaper, Saudi Arabia

Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal is the publisher and Chairman of the AlWatan newspaper, the youngest and one of the highest distribution papers in Saudi Arabia. He is also a member of The King Faisal Foundation, and a Co-Founder and Trustee of the Arab Thought Foundation, which seeks to promote dialogue between the Arab and western communities. Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal holds a BSc in Computer Science and a Master’s from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy,Tufts University.



Al-Bashir, Salaheddin
Minister of Justice, Jordan

Salaheddin Al-Bashir is the Minister of Justice of Jordan. He previously served as the Minister of Industry and Trade as well as the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs. He was a member of His Majesty’s Economic Consultative Council, Chairman of the Subcommittee of the Royal Economic Consultative Council on Jordan’s Governorates Development, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Albeit University. Previously, he was a Managing Partner at International Business Legal Associates, and a legal adviser on International Affairs and a former professor of law at Jordan University. He holds a Bachelor’s in Law from Jordan University, an LL.M from Harvard University and a Doctorate from McGill University.



Al-Ghurair, Majid Saif
Chief Executive Officer, Al-Ghurair Group, United Arab Emirates

Majid Saif Al-Ghurair is CEO of the Al-Ghurair Group, one of the main business groups of the United Arab Emirates, with businesses spanning trade, industry and manufacturing. He is also President of Dubai’s renowned BurJuman Centre, Chairman of Shuaa Capital, and member of the Arab Business Council. He was previously involved in the formation of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres, and has continued to foster development of the Group’s key interests in real estate and manufacturing. He was voted Business Leader Personality of the Year 2004 in the United Arab Emirates. Majid Saif Al-Ghurair holds a BA in Accounting from Al Ain University.



Al-Harthy, Assilah Z.
Head, Corporate Affairs, Oman Oil Company, Oman

Assilah Al-Harthy is the Head of Corporate Affairs at Oman Oil Company SAOC, which plays a critical role in the Sultanate’s efforts to diversify the Omani economy and to generate Omani and foreign private sector investment. She is a member of the Dean’s Council at Harvard University, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, a member of the Sultan Qaboos University Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of Oman Oil Marketing Company SAOG. She is the recipient of a number of honours and awards. Assilah Al-Harthy is a graduate of the Sultan Qaboos University and of the Owner/President Management (OPM) programme at Harvard Business School.



Al-Hussein, Zeid Raad
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Jordan to the UN, Permanent Mission of Jordan, Jordan

Prince Zeid Raad Al-Hussein is Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Jordan to the UN. He was elected first President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a post he will hold for three years. He has also served as Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and as Jordan’s Deputy Permanent Representative. He is presently the Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Scope of Legal Protection under the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel, as well as being the coordinator for the Non-aligned Movement on Peacekeeping. His publications include: A Nightmare Avoided: Jordan and Suez 1956, and Religious Militancy and the Arab Middle East: Threats and Responses 1979-1988. He holds a BA in Political Science from John Hopkins University and a PhD in History from Cambridge University.

Araujo, Maria Consuelo
Minister of Culture, Colombia

Maria Consuelo Araujo has been Colombia’s Minister of Culture since 2002. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several entities, including the Aqueduct and Sewer Enterprise in Bogotá, the National Network of Botanical Gardens, the Recreational and Sportive Local Institution (IDRD), the Capital Channel and the Local Institute for Childhood Protection (IDIPRON). Previously, she worked as a foreign trade adviser for the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry, and was communications and special manager of housing for the Agrarian, Industrial and Miner Credit Fund. She studied Finance and International Relations at the Externado University of Colombia, and later specialized in Government, Management and Public Affairs at Columbia University. She also studied International Relations at the University of Milan and French at the Sorbonne University in Paris.



Arifin, Nurul
Actress, Indonesia

Nurul Arifin is an actress, an anti-AIDS activist and a member of the Golkar Party. She is a popular former model but left that career to engage in selective acting roles which address interests close to her heart. Her passion is spreading the anti-AIDS message across Indonesia and she works with several non-governmental organizations to achieve her goal. In an effort to raise public awareness of the AIDS epidemic, she joined the Golkar party based on her concern to effect real changes within the political system, focusing on the AIDS campaign and women’s rights. Nurul Arifin holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Indonesia.



Arpe, Matteo
Chief Executive Officer, Capitalia, Italy

Matteo Arpe is the Chief Executive Officer of Capitalia, Italy’s fourth largest banking group. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Banca di Roma, Fineco, Mediobanca, Instituto Europeo di Oncologia and Associazione Bancaria Italiana. He has had an extensive career in banking and finance, with positions held at Mediobanca, Lehman Brothers, Bancaroma, Mediocredito Centrale and, presently, Capitalia. He graduated in 1987 with honors in Business Economics from Bocconi University.



Asao, Keiichiro
Member of the House of Councillors, Japan

Keiichiro Asao was elected in 1998 to the House of Councillors from Kanagawa Prefecture representing the Democratic Party of Japan. Currently he is the Director of the Youth Division of the Organization Committee, Chairman of the Committee on Financial Affairs, a member of the Special Committee on Humanitarian Reconstruction Support for Iraq and Responses to Armed Attacks, and a chartered member of the Security Analysts Association of Japan. He is also the author of several publications. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Business, and holds an MBA from Stanford University.



Awadallah, Bassem I.
Minister of Finance, Jordan

Bassem Awadallah has been Jordan's Minister of Finance since 2005. Previously he has been Minister of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Planning of Jordan since 2001. He was also an economic adviser to His Majesty,The King of Jordan. Formerly he served as the Director of the Economic Department of the Royal Hashemite Court, and adviser to the Jordanian Prime Minister. He worked previously as Finance and Project Development Manager for the New Work Company. He is the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the Al Istiqlal Decoration of the First Order of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He holds a BSc in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and an MSc and PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics.



Awotwi, Violet E.
Founder and Executive Director, Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment, Ghana

Violet Awotwi is the Founder and Executive Director of Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment (WISE), a nonprofit organization based in Ghana, which seeks to empower women and provide counseling and social services to survivors of violence. She has extensive experience as a leader in both the non-profit and for-profit business worlds, with particular areas of expertise in organizational development, strategic planning, community development, and strategic partnership development and management. She has most recently used these skills to launch a new and innovative organization, The WIELD Foundation, which seeks to cultivate and promote the next generation of African women leaders. She graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with an MBA in Finance and Strategy.
