Work smarter, not longer!

About us

4 Day Week Global seeks to reshape the way we think about work, by moving the conversation away from hours, and onto productivity and output. Since then, we have organised pilot programs across the world, in nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil and with many more on the way. Through our pilot programs, we have guided businesses worldwide in the planning, trialling, and implementation of the 4 day week initiative, using our 100:80:100™ principle. Employees receive 100% pay for 80% time worked with 100% productivity targets achieved. The 100-80-100™ principle was developed by our leaders, Charlotte Lockhart and Andrew Barnes after they successfully piloted a 4 day week in their business, Perpetual Guardian, in 2018. It has become the international standard to help businesses formulate a fair and flexible pathway to reducing work time for their people, no matter how many hours they work currently. It was developed in response to the need to accommodate a meaningful reduction in work for staff who work non-standard hours, either part-time or regular hours of overtime. We believe that reduced-hour working is the future of work, and that together, work/life balance can become the norm for everyone, allowing employees to live fulfilling, healthy lives, while businesses can flourish and create strong relationships with their people. Want to learn more about what we do? Send us a message, or view our website to find out how we can support you in organizational optimization for a shorter workweek. In 2023 we had the privilege of being featured on TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies list, alongside global giants such as Apple, Disney, and Microsoft.

These are some of the indicators that show that the future of work is a 4 day week! 🔜 1. There are more remote workers 👩💻 Covid definitely accelerated the remote working culture, but is it here to stay? The latest surveys in the US show that remote work is on the rise, contrary to what a lot of people seem to think. Adoption of more flexible working practices are creating a work culture ripe for reduced working hours. 2. Less work is being done on Fridays 👀 Fridays have always been deemed as a day to take it easy. From quiet quitting to ‘no-meeting-Fridays’, this has only increased. Employers are starting to realize that perhaps just allowing their employees to have Friday off altogether might get them to focus better for the other 4 days. 3. The 4 day work week is becoming a popular demand 🙋 Employees are more aware of the benefits that a shorter workweek can bring. A study by Eagle Hill Consulting found that 83% of respondents say a 4 day workweek improves health and mitigates burnout. A Joblist survey, reports that a 4 day workweek is what 94% of job seekers are looking for in a job. 4. The evidence for the 4 day week is growing 🚀 We’ve been running large-scale 4 day work week trials across the globe since 2019 and have been researching its effects on both employees and the businesses they work for. What we have found is that the 4 day work week supports a multitude of benefits. Now others are starting to see this too. 5. 4 day week trials are becoming more common 🎯 Multiple trials are taking place across the globe with many more to kick off later this year. With each trial, more organizations (92%) are opting to continue with their shorter work week. Nine-day fortnights or other variations are also on the rise. 6. It’s being introduced into legislation 📈 Last month Senator Bernie Sanders introduced the 32-hour work week bill into the US Senate. Discussion of the bill will bring the 4 day work week (with no loss in pay) to the fore of US political discussion, further promoting the movement. So, do you believe that the 4 day work week is on the rise? Have you noticed any of these trends? #4dayweek #fourdayweek

This is a huge win. 🙌 The latest survey of CEOs by KPMG reveals that nearly a third of US companies are considering the 4 day work week or similar shorter workweek approaches. This news comes as no surprise as burnout is at an all-time high and employees are looking for roles where their well-being is put first. While 30% of CEOs of large corporations are considering the 4 day week or nine-day fortnight, they are still looking to determine whether it would have a positive impact on employees' health and therefore, on the bottom-line. Our research on the 4 day work week, which has been taking place since 2019, proves that this is the case. The 4 day week improves worker mental and physical health. The 4 day week increases worker productivity. The 4 day week attracts and retains the best talent. The CEO of KPMG seems hesitant to admit that the 4 day week is the future of work. It has to be. The way we are currently working is not sustainable. Generative AI will further enable our adoption of a shorter working week. ❓ Do you think the 4 day week will be adopted by large corporations? #4dayweek #ceo #ninedayfortnight

I help mission-driven brands grow through human-centered SEO content 🌱🚀 | Featured on Oura, monday.com, Oyster HR, and more | EN 🇬🇧🇺🇸 & ES 🇪🇸 | Senior Writer at Literal Humans

👀🕰️🧑💻The hidden benefits of the four-day workweek. I’ve been working four days a week since I joined Literal Humans full-time almost two years ago. Most of the time, I use my extra free day to run errands, catch up on chores, see friends, work on side projects, and spend time in nature. But the four-day workweek has given me so much more than time. It gave me room to grieve. Eight months before I started having Fridays off, my mum died unexpectedly. I was still in shock and reeling from symptoms like brain fog, confusion, insomnia, lack of energy, anxiety, and of course, the deepest sadness I had ever felt in my life. My fledgling freelance business had dried to barely a trickle, and I was struggling to make ends meet. Joining a four-day workweek employer was a lifeline not just because of the financial stability it provided. It gave my frazzled nervous system a chance to rest, recover, and heal. Progress was slow. But after many months, I started sleeping better, my concentration improved, my mind cleared, and the waves of grief became less frequent and more manageable. As a result, I became more motivated and proactive at work, started having a clearer vision for the agency and our clients, and began contributing better ideas. The quality of my writing improved, and I had more mental energy to focus on honing new skills. Having an extra day to grieve each week contributed to my recovery and, ultimately, made me a better employee. Employers — would you consider a four-day workweek? It could have surprising benefits for your employees — and business. #4dayworkweek

Italy is trialing a 4 day work week in 2024! 🇮🇹 What will this look like? ⬇ 📌 Several Italian companies will be trialing a 4 day work week using our 100:80:100™ model - that is 100% pay for 80% time for 100% output. 📌 This means that they will be reducing their work-time by 20%, while still receiving pay for working full-time. 📌 The shorter work week trial is part of our European 4 Day Week Pilot Program happening in 2024 which involves multiple European countries. 📌 They follow in the footsteps of Germany who have over 45 companies trialing a 4 day work week this year, and Portugal, whose trial is funded by the Portuguese government. 📌 Franco Zullo (our Italian Country Partner) and 4 Day Week Global will use their past experience running 4 day week trials to guide the companies through their re-org / re-design using design-thinking workshops. 📌 We hope that like other trials, the Italian companies participating will experience the same benefits in previous 4 day work week trials such as better mental health, better physical health, higher levels of productivity and creativity, better work-life balance and higher employee engagement, among other benefits. ➡️ Do you think the 4 day work week trial will be a success in Italy? Let us know in the comments below. 👇 ➡️ Are you an Italian company reading this, looking to be a part of this trial? Speak with Franco Zullo 🤝
