______________________________________________

The Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit" is celebrating record ratings worldwide. The story of a fictional American chess icon from the 1960s was the surprise hit of 2020. With a few exceptions, most of the filming locations are in and around Berlin - such as the Bodemuseum, which has been converted into an elegant restaurant.

Based on the 1983 novel of the same name, "The Queen's Gambit", by Walter Tevis, director Scott Frank and screenwriter Allan Scott developed the most-watched miniseries in Netflix history. It revolves around the chess prodigy Elizabeth "Beth" Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy: from her childhood in an orphanage, where she discovers her talent for the "game of kings" thanks to the janitor Mr. Shaibel, to her rise to the ranks of the world champions of a male-dominated sport.

Apart from a few locations in Ontario, Canada, Berlin was the focus of the series' filming. For example, the shots were taken in a hotel where Beth is staying during a chess tournament in Cincinnati, in the town hall in Spandau. The Palais am Funkturm served as the "Mariposa" hotel in Las Vegas. And the filming location for the Christian girls' orphanage Methuen Home, where Beth lives after the death of her mother, is Schulzendorf Castle in Brandenburg.

Fans of "The Queen's Gambit" can follow many traces of the series in the German capital. You can look forward to a stay in one of Berlin's most elegant and luxurious hotels and drift from location to location.
