Gold Matters: Real Solutions To Surreal Risks Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 143 ratings

Two highly respected global authorities in macro-economic risk and precious metal investing, Egon
von Greyerz and Matthew Piepenburg, have co-authored a much-needed examination of gold as an
essential wealth preservation asset in a modern setting of unprecedented financial risk. Never before
have financial systems been stretched this dangerously thin. Never before have investors faced a
future of such epic change demanding immediate solutions.

Von Greyerz and Piepenburg provide a clear, blunt yet fact-based case for significant and pending
wealth destruction arising form a global convergence of historically unprecedented debt, market,
currency and banking risk. Rather than sensationally assert such warnings, the authors of Gold
Matters carefully examine each of these financial fault-lines with simple and graph-supported facts
rather than dramatic declarations.

Von Greyerz and Piepenburg open with an objective, reader-friendly yet largely ignored history of
central bank and sovereign mismanagement of international monetary and fiscal policies,
characterized today by the reckless expansion of the broad money supply to address unsustainable
(as well as unprecedented) debt levels. Such distorted yet consistent policy errors (i.e., solving a
record-breaking debt crisis with more debt) have led to the largest risk asset bubbles (stocks, bonds,
property) ever recorded in the history of capital markets.

As history reminds: All bubbles pop, but the interim (and artificially stimulated) euphoria and extreme
inflation of risk asset pricing placed the majority of retail investors into a dangerous and false
complacency. Wall Street pundits, cornered policy makers and an increasingly discredited financial
media have deliberately ignored and/or downplayed the fatal patterns and consequences of such
desperate money creation to pay for equally desperate debt expansion, namely: The inevitable
arrival of wealth destroying inflation, serial market implosions, social fracturing and the classic
debasement of the currencies by which uninformed investors otherwise measure their accumulated
wealth. In short, as currencies weaken, so does wealth.

Physical gold, often misunderstood as a “barbarous relic” of the past, is revealed in Gold Matters as
an essential real asset in this distorted modern backdrop. With the calm of two market veterans
sharing over 70 combined years of experience at the highest levels of enterprise management,
global banking, hedge fund, and wealth management circles, von Greyerz and Piepenburg bring
much-needed candor, expertise and perspective in identifying the obvious challenges investors face.
As importantly, they offer equally obvious solutions. As Zurich-based principals to the world’s largest
private wealth management enterprise for ultra-affluent gold investors outside of the commercial
banking system, their experienced critique of, and solutions to, this broken financial system are
based on objective facts rather than subjective theory or bias.

Their deep understanding of precious metal solutions, hitherto reserved for only the world’s most
affluent, are now shared openly for all investors seeking to be informed and prepared rather than
anxious and uncertain. With great crisis comes great opportunity, and despite the clear risks and
struggles ahead, Gold Matters offers a sane and clear path to wealth generation and preservation in
an otherwise volatile future setting marked by increasing wealth destruction and profound systemic
change.
If such themes, facts and solutions speak to your own instincts and interests, please scroll above
and hit “buy now” to become a more informed—and hence prepared--investor.

In their new book, Gold Matters, von Greyerz and Piepenburg provide an overview of wealth management and preservation from a historical perspective. The 343 pages are divided into two sections: Problems Facing Distorted Financial Markets (Chapters 1 to 11) and The Golden Solution to Distorted Financial Markets (Chapters 12-19). The book is well-organized conceptually and comprehensive in scope, with a writing style that is clear and unusually articulate. Citing a long chain of financial crises that extend from the Mississippi Bubble in 18th century France to today, the authors make a strong case that governments that leverage fiat (paper) currency to cover their debts inevitably experience economic collapse. While the target audience is primarily those who do not hold physical gold, even precious metal veterans will appreciate the fascinating narrative told by these two subject matter experts. Publication of Gold Matters at this time is fortuitous and well worth your consideration.

I have read articles by these two gentlemen, as well as watched several YouTube interviews with Matthew Piepenburg. They both project extreme credibility. Appreciate their fact driven and blunt honesty.

Eventually gold will go to a price one cannot afford. Start buying immediately even with 1/10 ounce coins. If you wait, you’ll miss out.

If you as a novice or expert are concerned about investment choices or wealth preservation during this challenging time including astronomical monetary expansion, high inflation, rising interest rates, a war in Europe, continuing COVID mutations just to name a few, then “Gold Matters” is an extremely relevant book today. This is a very interesting read by subject matter experts who make the case through many historical and current references that gold as a real asset throughout time should be an important inclusion to one’s investment portfolio.

I've long felt the gold spot price was manipulated , this helped explain how and why, among several other things. Many of which are really difficult to accept but they seem undeniable. The writing style was fantastic!

I bought this book because of the current economic climate with market volatility, inflation, and war. Everyone says gold is a great hedge, but I have never really invested in gold before, nor did I know much about it from an asset class standpoint.

Great read if you are interested in learning about gold or if you are worried about the economy and what you should do to preserve your wealth.

Best start to finish analysis on gold I know of. Only Mike Maloney's ten part series is as comprehensive on the matter and that takes 5 hours of watching on YouTube.

This book is the best, most bookshelf reference I have.

Gold Matters, by Egon von Greyerz and Matt Piepenburg, is about the truth. Truth that will allow one to preserve their wealth and avoid the coming financial disaster due to astronomical debts levels globally.
Political leaders, Federal reserve bank heads and wall street leaders have mislead the common man for decades and the system is very fragile today.
Gold Matters describes, in easy to read language, just how this happened and what you can do to protect yourself today.

3.0 out of 5 stars The financial system at its edge
Reviewed in Germany on July 4, 2022
Ever since the debasement of the US- dollar to a commodity of intrinic value, currencies devalues continously, while central banks tried to temporarily cure any market bust with more liquidity, which in turn means more debt.
This resulted in the necessity of steadlily lowering interest rates, in order to be able to service payments.
Eventually, politicians and central banks maneuvered the system to a point, which can plainly be described as a "lose - lose" situation.
If interest rates are raised sufficiently to reduce inflation, a heavy depression with market crashes and high unemployment will result.
If interest rates remain at low levels, inflation will persue, with more decline of the pater currencies.
The latter seems to be the favored of the two way conundrum, since, by an effect called "financial repression", it inflaties away and thus reduces governmental debt. As a sideeffect, it distracts from the responsible persons in power, since the effects of inflation appear time deferred.

Now, what is the investment solution in times of crashing markets, high inflation and delutionary speech of politicians. Well, the title of the book already provides a hint. Gold has been a protector of wealth for thousands of years. It should not be consideres a speculative investment, but rather a store of wealth in turbulent times, which preserved value over generations.

Anyone who is familiar with the articles of the authors, will not find much news in this book.
The volume of it, could have been easily downsized, due to the continous repetiton of expressions like "money debasement", "distorted and desperate central banks", "creating money out of thin air", rigged to fail markets", or "mouseclick money", which can be found in each chapter, while omitting how money is created by a mousclick and how it can appear on a balance sheet. What ist the accounting entry on the aktiva?
This infinite loop of repetition together with a creation of long sentences, often with messages in brackets, does not contribute to a pleasure of reading. Also the graphs included are bearly discernable.

An emperic change in our finacial system lies ahead, which will influence the foundation of everybodys captial expediture. Anyone who is looking for a revealing literature in a "blunt" language, will be served with this book.
