Death comes less than 48 hours after Patrick Ekeng died in Romania

A goalkeeper who collapsed during her warm-up before a match in Cameroon on Sunday has died, it has been confirmed.

Less than 48 hours after the death of Dinamo Bucharest’s Patrick Ekeng from a suspected heart attack, Jeanine Christelle Djomnang was preparing to take part in Femina Stars’s fixture against Louves of Minproff in the Cameroonian women’s championship when she collapsed on the pitch. The 26-year-old was taken to the local hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) later revealed that initial reports suggested Djomnang died of a heart attack but said it is now awaiting a formal medical report. A condolence book for both Djomanang and Ekeng has now been opened at Fecafoot’s headquarters in Yaoundé.

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has postponed all football matches this weekend following the death of Ekeng on Friday, with local media reporting that an investigation had been launched.
