What Guys Do Subconsciously To Impress Girls Vs What Girls Do Subconsciously To Impress Guys

Being able to attract someone and impress without words is truly an art.
Contributor

Guys and girls are always trying to attract each other's attention. Most of the initial stages of showing interest in someone and trying to impress them is done non-verbally because there is nothing further from sexy than a straight-up sales pitch when it comes to romance. In other words, being able to attract someone and impress without words is truly an art.

Humans have many ways of communicating interest non-verbally, and I would argue that most of this communication is done through behaviour and with the eyes and body. So if you're not sure if a certain someone is interested in you, wether they are a guy or a girl - there are certain tell-tale signs that will let you know if they feel the same.  Read on to find out more!

Guys subconsciously pay extra attention to you and tease and poke fun at your personality quirks

A classic move - guys tease and make fun of girls that they are actually interested in.  This counter-intuitive strategy that hans't changed much since the playground days, and that's because it works. When a girl is being teased in a gentle way, she knows he is trying to impress.

Girls subconsciously ignore and avoid a guy she is trying to catch his attention

On the surface, this doesn't make sense, i know. But hear me out! Somewhere deep down girls know that a little mystery goes a long way and that a girl who is worthy attention shouldn't ever  have to scream for it.  This manifests - at conscious level - as avoiding or ignoring a guy a girl actually has a crush on. I know, we're the worse.

Guys subconsciously show off their physical strength and flex their muscles at any given opportunity

When trying to impress a girl, guys will always use their muscle strength to impress.  Call it an evolutionary mechanism, or whatever- basically it's just science. Nothing screams testosterone like a unplanned arm wrestling match when a bunch of cute girls are hovering around.

Girls subconsciously try to show off their intelligence and challenge him to demonstrate that she can actually hold a conversation

When girls are really trying to impress, they want to show that there is more that meets the eye. In other words, girls want guys to know they are more than just a pretty face and can actually hold a conversation. So they will challenge him and his ideas, in a clever and flirtatious  way - of course.

Guys will subconsciously show that they are fearless risk-takers

Guys know that the female gaze is usually directed towards guys who tend to be a on the risk-tasking side of the spectrum. Risk-taking doesn't only have to be physical, though. Sometimes a guy can be a big risk-taker in business or emotionally  as well,  whichever form it take - it's attractive to girls. And guys definitely know this deep down.

Girls subconsciously act natural and never look like they're trying too hard

Girls know that trying too hard is a huge turnoff, so when they are trying to impress they will subconsciously try to act as natural and as effortless as possible. Nothing screams sexy like a little tousled hair and imperfect makeup, right?

Guys will make direct eye contact and hold it for a second longer than normal

Ever notice when your out at a bar with your friends and a group of guys is shamelessly staring down you and your girlfriends.  Guys are visual creatures and we they see something they like, they will have a hard time taking their eyes off it. So when they're trying to impress a girl, they will make sure to let her know with a long and fixed gaze.

Girls will subconsciously make eye contact but quickly look down and away

When girls want to impress they usually don't take the same route as boys and make direct eye contact. Too aggressive.  Because when a cute guy catches our eye, it's almost too overwhelming to look directly at them.  So this weird thing happens instead where you'll look at the guy, but then feel the need to pull away and look down, so as to not be blinded by his radiating handsomeness. Take it as a compliment.

Guys subconsciously take up a lot of physical space and make large arm gestures

Guys who are trying to impress the ladies try to take up a lot of physical space - some guys more subtly than others, but they all do this to a certain degree. This is how guys show dominance, and we see it across all cultures. Because all guys know that it is an effective technique to grab attention - remember, its just science.

Girls will subconsciously use subtle eye contact and body language to attract his gaze

Now, I don't wanna generalize, but girls are generally less aggressive in their body language approach to seduction. Ever see a girl giggling and playing coyly with her hair and gently reveal her neck - yup, she's doing that all under the radar of conscious awareness.  If you ever travelled you will quickly notice this is a universal tendency, which says a lot about how powerful and deep this behaviour runs.

Guys will subconsciously try dominate conversation and even interrupt others to stand out

Some guys do this more than others, but all guys will feel the need to stick up for their beliefs and opinions when a cute girl is watching. This is another way of asserting dominance. Putting pleasantries aside and even interrupting or speaking over others to show who's boss. Think of a macho politician trying to one-up the whole panel.  Classic.

Girls will dazzle a crowd by being a bubbly and down-to-earth life of the party

Girls will also try to dazzle their audience and show "dominance" - but in a slightly different way.  Girls will flex their schmoozing skills and show that they can become BFFs with anyone and everyone by the end of the night.  Because they know that being outgoing and socially flexible is a very attractive and appreciated by guys - especially the more social and extraverted types.

Guys subconsciously become immature and crack childish jokes

There is a positive correlation between how much a guy likes you and how childish and immature he acts around you. In other words, if a guy is wanting to impress for some reason this triggers the need to act half his age.  I guess we're wired that way because childish behaviour can come across as carefree and endearing. Whatever the reason, if you noticed this, take it as a compliment.

Girls will laugh at their own jokes to show that they don't take themselves - or life - too seriously

When a girl is trying to impress she will subconsciously be compelled to act as cool and as natural as possible - trying too hard is not sexy, right? So, this often ends up looking like that fun quirky girl that never takes life too seriously and laughs at her own terrible jokes.  The kindda girl you just wanna be around her all the time because it's so easy.

Guy will subconsciously bring up stories and anecdotes that make them stand out from the crowd

When a guy is looking to show off a little - even if he's on the shyer side - he will often subconsciously be motivated to brag. Weather he tells you about his crazy travel adventures or that time he killed a huge spider - he is trying to give you a little sales pitch as to why he's different from other guys.

Girls will subconsciously show that they are more than just a pretty face by talking and trying to find common interests

Most girls know that it takes more than just a nice looking face to truly impressing a guy. Don't get me wrong -  superficial packaging  does help, but that will never keep someones interest for the long-term.  So when a girl is truly trying to impress she will feel the need to search for common points of interest, by asking questions about what he likes and his hobbies. If a girl is taking the time to do this, congrats buddy - she's trying to impress you.

Guys will subconsciously get a new haircut and groom their facial hair

Facial hair is like makeup for guys. So if you notice that a guy has suddenly made a change to his facial hair or is grooming it more than usual, could be a sign that he's trying to impress.  Same goes with hair, a guy will be more likely to get a fresh new haircut if he's trying to look good for a new girl.

Girls will subconsciously  wear their tried and true "feel good" outfits and makeup

Wether it's a boxy plain white T or a figure-flattering dress, each girl has a couple of items in their wardrobe that they know will always make them feel like a million bucks no matter what.  When a girl is trying to impress she will use clothing to her advantage - not necessarily picking the most tight and cleavage-boosting top,  but rather the piece that makes her feel the most natural and comfortable in her skin.

Guys subconsciously offer to teach a girl something new

Ever had a guy teach you something new? Maybe he studies or works in a field you know nothing about, so he took the time to teach you about it.  I hope that you at least faked some interest because when a guy does that  - it's a sure sign he is  interested and trying to impress.

Girls will subconsciously offer a helping hand with a chore

When girls are trying to make a good impression they will become extra compassionate and lend a helping hand when necessary.  Wether it's with an annoying house chore or helping inspire him with a work or school assignment - this type of behaviour shows that she's willing to sacrifice her precious time to make his life a little easier. Sigh.

Guys will subconsciously  listen attentively to a girl when she talks and ask questions

Guys who truly wish to make an impression and demonstrate to a girl that they are really interested in her will make an effort to listen attentively when she talks. They will even go further than this and ask questions to try and show even more interest. This is because, guys know - deep down - that this shows a woman that you care about her beyond just the packaging.

Girls will subconsciously laugh at all his (bad) jokes

When a girl is trying to impress a guy, she wants to make him feel confident and comfortable.  The tell-tale sign of someone who is crushing hard is their inability to stop giggling and laughing at even the lamest jokes. So if you notice her doing this - chances are - she is definitely trying to catch your attention.

Guys will subconsciously drink like a fish and get rowdy with the boys

Ever notice that guys get extra rowdy and feel compelled to drink excessively when there are cute girls around.  There is a reason for that. On a subconscious level guys assume that girls appreciate this domineering, rowdy and carefree behaviour.  And I guess girls kind of do, because I can say that i've seen this work IRL.

Girls will subconsciously show that they know how to have a good time by letting loose on the dance floor

Girls also try to show they can let loose and have a good time with their friends, but their tactic is slightly different from guy's. Girls will bust out their best dance floor moves to make an impression.  Even if your not the best dancer - just being at ease on the dance floor is a great way of showing that you're comfortable in your own skin and don't care what other people think.
