B mode US imaging with elastosonography tecnology was performed on the cords by 4-13 MHz linear probe (Esaote, MyLab60 with Elaxto application). The elastosonography technic demonstrated a colour map over B mode image. Different colours extended from green (soft) to ruddy (hard) to illustrate tissue feature after compression-decompression periods. In kids, spermatic cord with testicular torsion is among the main significant events. Differentiation from other acute scrotal events is confusing in diagnosis and therapy. The point of experimental research is to determine the viability of elastosonography, which investigates stiffness as a target strategy in determination and intervention of spermatic cord torsion. 16 male rabbits of a similar weight and age were chosen. They were separated into 2 groups including 8 rabbits. In Group 1, right testis was constant; in Group 2, the same testis experienced 720° curve a clockwise way and stabilized. After 1-2 hours of ischemic period, elastos...

Background Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) has risk factors similar to those of atherosclerosis. Salusin-β and arterial stiffness are novel parameters that have been shown to predict atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular disorders. However, their predictive value for detecting AAA remains unclear. Methods Forty-eight patients with AAA and 47 age- and sex-matched participants without AAA were enrolled in the study. Arterial stiffness parameters were obtained via an oscillometric Mobil-O-Graph PWA Monitor device (IEM GmbH) with integrated ARCSolver software (Australian Institute of Technology). Plasma salusin-β levels were analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay reagent kit (Abbkine, Inc). The measured salusin-β levels and arterial stiffness parameters of the AAA and control groups were compared. Results Salusin-β levels were significantly lower in patients with AAA (P = .014). There was a significant negative correlation between salusin-β levels and abdominal aorta d...

AimOmentin‐1, an adipokine primarily secreted from visceral adipose tissue, regulates metabolic homeostasis, whereas carotid intima‐media thickness (CIMT) is a valid marker for early diagnosis of atherosclerosis. We aimed to investigate whether polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is related to levels of omentin‐1 and CIMT and demonstrate the association with cardiovascular risk.MethodsA prospective case–control study was performed on 47 PCOS patients and 35 healthy subjects. Hormonal and metabolic parameters, levels of serum omentin‐1, and CIMT were evaluated in the two groups.ResultsThe right, left, total CIMT, and levels of serum omentin‐1 were significantly higher in the PCOS group than in the healthy controls (p = 0.015, p = 0.009, p = 0.021, and p = 0.002, respectively). Using multiple linear and backward elimination regression analyses, serum omentin‐1 was found to be independently associated with age and Ln‐transformed homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, and card...

The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the maternal superior mesenteric artery Doppler, pancreatic size and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Two hundred and fifty-eight consecutive, pregnant women between 20 and 22 weeks of gestation underwent routine fetal anomaly screening. All subjects underwent maternal superior mesenteric artery Doppler and pancreatic size measurement of head, corpus and tail during screening. Screening was done with 50 g glucose challenge test (GCT) at gestational age 24-28 weeks. The patients who were having an abnormal GCT were subjected to 100 g GCT. Subjects were divided into two groups such as pregnancies with gestational diabetes and normal pregnancies. Relationship between Doppler and pancreatic measurements with GDM was analyzed. Out of 258 screened pregnancies, 28 (10.9 %) were diagnosed as GDM. There were significant differences between GDM positive and negative cases in terms of pancreatic body size (17.5 vs. 14.4 mm, p = 0.05), superior mesenteric artery Doppler systolic/diastolic ratio (S/D) (4.2 vs. 3.4) and resistance index (RI) (0.72 vs. 0.68) values. Superior mesenteric artery Doppler S/D (AUC = 0.761, p < 0.001) and RI (AUC = 0.762, p < 0.001) indices were significant predictors for GDM. Superior mesenteric artery Doppler and pancreatic size evaluation may be utilized to detect abnormal glucose metabolism during pregnancy care.

Dandy-Walker malformation is a part of Dandy-Walker complex and characterized as development anomaly of posterior fossa. Etiology is not definitely known. Many theories suggested as agenesis of Luschka and Magendie foramens, malformation of fourth ventricle root and delayed opening of foramen Magendie. Prenatal ultrasonography is important on diagnosis. Cystic dilatation of posterior fossa, hypo- or agenesis of cerebellar vermis is the main sonographic findings. Hydrocephaly may exist. This study reveals Dandy-Walker malformation with existence of hypoplasia of cerebellar hemispheres, meningocele and polyhydramnios.

Aim: The aim of the study is to demonstrate the relationship between the number and distribution of microbleeding focuses with degrees of periventricular ischemia on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by using T2W GRE in lacunar infarct. Method: 79 patients with stroke were examined on MRI by using T2W GRE. Periventricular hyperintensity (PVH) grouped on 4 degrees by using scoring system. Microbleedings defined as a well bordered small hemosiderin deposits appear hypointense on T2W gradient echo sequence. Results: One or more microbleeding focuses had found on T2W GRE in 49.6%. Microbleedings were existed lacunar infarct in 93.7%. Pearson chi-square analysis revealed a significant relation with periventricular ischemia severity and the number of microbleedings (p<0,01). Spearman's correlation analysis showed an advanced positive relationship between number of lacunar infarcts and number of microbleedings (r=0,429; p<0,01), number of lacunar infarcts and severity of periventricular hyperintensity (r=0,400; p<0,01) and severity of periventricular hyperintensity and number of microbleedings (r=0,773; p<0,01). Conclusion: This study revealed the relationship between lacunar infarct, periventricular white matter ischemia and hypointens focuses on T2W GRE. This MRI sequence has a role on diagnosis and treatment planning especially cerebrovascular diseases in middle and advanced ages.

Glomus jugulare tumors are arising from the jugulare bulb in the jugular foramen of the temporal bone and may spread to the middle ear. Glomus jugulare is a rare and highly vascular neural residue tumors that have benign features and grouped in the glomus tumors. Glomus caroticum, glomus vagale, glomus tympanicum and glomus jugulare both are inside this disease group also called as paraganglioma or chemodectoma. Women are more often and left side localization is frequent in this tumor. Glomus jugulare tumor has a slow progression and temporary pause periods on the symptoms; therefore findings lead delays on the diagnosis. 62-year-old female patient with tinnitus for 3 years was admitted to hospital because of developing a new hoarseness. This study reveals a glomus tumor that is a rare cause of tinnitus and new developed hoarseness caused by cranial nerve infiltration and examined with radiological findings.

Objective: The venous insufficiency of lower limb is a common complaint in the population. The natural history of CVD is not clear enough to satisfy. We have investigated the venous anatomy and reflux existence of the lower limb by using the structural angulations of the venous outlets and related this to the occurrence of venous reflux in the superficial, deep and perforator venous system, demonstrated on CDS. Methods: We investigate 44 limbs of 22 healthy subjects and 46 limbs of 23 patients with chronic venous disease (CVD). The participants were evaluated with duplex scanning for venous reflux. The CDS examination performed in the upright and supine position. Compression on gray-scale and color Doppler were employed to assess the absence of venous thrombosis. Result: 45 patients (31 female, 14 male) were examinated on doppler ultrasonography. The mean age was 54.5 years (41 to 79 years). All subjects were in normal range of body-mass-index and had no significant disease. We mea...

congenital hip dysplasia congenital hip dislocation developmental dysplasia of the hip ultrasonography, methods. The purpose of this study is to establish the diagnostic value of combine using static (Graf) and dynamic (Harcke) ultrasonography methods. Both static and dynamic methods were used only in Graf’s Type 1 and Graf’s Type 2a patients. Groups were classified as normal findings (Group A), follow-up group (Group B) and DDH group (Group C). In Group B patients 17 of 20 hips were followed; 5 of them diagnosed as DDH and classified as Group C after follow up studies. In initial evaluation 14 hips were followed according to the result of Harcke’s. Whereas 18 hips were directed to follow up for their suspicious Graf’s result. When both methods were combined to determine suspicious cases 20 hips were classified as Group B. Twelve hips were directed to follow up in both methods. After 3 months hips were reevaluated and 4 hips were diagnosed to be DDH according to both methods. One hip was diagnosed as DDH by only Graf’s method, it was stable in Hercke’s. Eleven hips were normal for both methods. Static and dynamic methods leads to diagnose DDH easily without repetitions and precludes confusing of methods by leaving β angle measurement of the hip. © 2013 PSCI Publisher All rights reserved.

Kommerell diverticulum (KD) is an enlargement that occurs in proximal segment of aberrant right subclavian artey originating from descendent aorta. This dilatation consists in focal segment, therefore called as KD. Aberrant right subclavian artery has a normal diameter on later trace. Although left aberrant subclavian artery origins may show similar enlargement. This enlargement appears in origin of left aberrant subclavian artery from right sided aortic arcus and called aortic diverticulum. Aneurysm, trombosis in this dilated segment and dissection development with true and false lumens of aberrant subclavian artery after KD is very rare. This report presents coexistence of thrombosis and dissection with subclavian artery aneurism maintained from KD.

Venous leg ulcers are the late and severe clinical form of chronic venous disease. Superficial venous system, deep venous system or perforating veins between them which are affected by reflux, obstruction or inability of the muscle pump, play an important role in pathophysiology. Compression bandages and wound care are the basis of treatment for venous ulcers. For ulcers which do not respond to these treatments, surgical procedures may be considered. There is a need for a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment and follow-up of venous leg ulcers. Cutaneous lesions like stasis ulcer are common in patients with chronic renal failure. Healing of chronic ulcer is difficult and can take time. Here we emphasized the effects of topical use of un-fractionated heparin on wound healing of an elderly male patient with chronic renal failure.

Amniotic fluid has an essential role in fetal health. It has bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory and thermoregulatory effects. Stable and adequate fluid amounts lead to proper growth of the fetal lung and musculoskeletal system. Oligohydramnios is a risk factor for uteroplacental insufficiency and hypoxemia.1 The stability of the fetal circulation ensures an uninterrupted exchange from maternal blood and enables the fetus to tolerate labor. The failure on this delicate circulation leads oxidative distress. Umbilical cord pH value is a sensitive marker for fetal asphyxia.2 Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is a sensitive marker for oxidative stress and an early indicator for fetal distress.3 Obstetric Doppler ultrasonography (US) is a noninvasive assessment method in predicting of fetal condition in active labor. Doppler velocimetry of umbilical artery (UmA), uterine artery (UtA) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) is a useful technique to detect the alterations of circulation in fetal dis...

Aim: To investigate whether the increased serum levels of testosterone secondary to Dutasteride therapy has any protective effect on cardiovascular system. Material and Methods: A prospective analysis of 50 patients diagnosed benign prostatic enlargement between May 2015 and May 2017 was performed. After randomization 25 patients treated with daily administration of 0.5 mg dutasteride (Dutasteride Group), and 25 patients were not given dutasteride (Control Group). We analyzed some serum novel cardiaovascular marker levels at baseline and after 6 months of the treatment. Echocardiography, carotid intima-media thickness and brachial artery resistive index (RI) were evaluated at baseline and after 6 months of the treatment. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, version 21. While “t test” was used for comparison the independent groups, paired t test was used in the matched groups. Statistical significance was considered at p<0.05. Results: The differences in serum Lp a, hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels were not statistically significant (p>0.05). Additionally, echocardiographic parameters, carotid intima-media thickness and brachial artery RI were similar before and after dutasteride tratment. Conclusion: After the short-term use of dutasteride, there was not a statistically significant difference in serum Lp a, hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels. Additionally, echocardiographic parameters, carotid intima-media thickness and brachial artery RI were also similar.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the effect of plasma volume alteration determined by hematocrit on biochemical parameters of the first trimester screening test. METHODS Enrolled in this study were 1,424 pregnant women in their first trimester who underwent a first trimester screening test. Fetal Nuchal Trancluciency measurement was obtained by ultrasonographic evaluation. Blood samples were taken for complete blood count, serum free β-HCG, and PAPP-A between 11 and 14 weeks of gestation. The effect of plasma volume alteration on the screening test was evaluated. Mean corpuscular volume was used to rule out possible iron deficiency anemia. RESULTS There were 59 women with combined risk > 1/270. Of these 59 women, there were 21 false positive results (1.5%). Serum Htc significantly predicted the false positive cases (AUC: 0.839, p < 0.001). The optimal cutoff value was obtained at a value of 30.2% with 85% sensitivity and 75% specificity. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that the degree of plasma alterations may affect the serum levels of the biochemical components of the first trimester screening test for aneuploidy, thereby leading to false positive test results.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the first step treatment in cholelithiasis. The purpose of this study was to establish a radiologic view on prediction of conversion from laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open surgery. This study included 176 patients who had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Preoperative ultrasonographic findings were assessed and we gave points to each finding according to results from correlation analysis. After the scoring we investigated the relationship between ultrasonographic findings and conversion from laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open surgery. Scoring significantly predicted failure in laparoscopic approach (AUC=0.758, P=0.003,). Optimal cut off score was found to be 1.95 with 67% sensitivity and 78% specificity. Score>1.95 was a risk factor for failure in laparoscopic approach [odds ratio=7.1(95% CI,2-24.9, P=0.002)]. There were 8 subjects out of 36(22%) with high score underwent open surgery while 4 out of 128 (3%) subjects with low score neede...

To determine the utility of elastosonography (ES) combined to cervical length measurement to predict preterm labor. One hundred twenty-seven women with pregnancies between 21 to 36 weeks of gestation without any risk factor for preterm labor were included in the study. All subjects underwent sonographic evaluation including fetal biometry, cervical length measurement and ES of uterine myometrium. Subcutaneous tissue was the reference point for ES evaluation. Tissue strain ratio values were obtained from all patients. Cervical length was a significant predictor for preterm delivery (AUC = 0.958, p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.001). Optimal cut-off value was obtained at 30 mm with 92% sensitivity and 81% specificity. Elastosonographic strain ratio was also a significant predictor for preterm delivery (AUC = 0.827, p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.001). Optimal cut-off value was obtained at 4.7 with 79% sensitivity and 91% specificity. In linear regression analysis, strain ratio (R(2 )= 0.61, beta = 0.171, p = 0.03) and cervical length (R(2 )= 0.61, beta = -0.516, p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.001) were significantly associated with preterm delivery. Cervical length &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 30 mm [39.1 (95 CI, 6.6-231.5, p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.001)] and strain ratio &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt; 4.7 [24.5 (95 CI, 4.1-146.5, p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.001)] were the risk factors for preterm delivery. Elastosonographic evaluation of uterine myometrium was found to be significantly correlated with cervical length but cervical length measurement is a better predictor for preterm labor than ES.

We sought to study the effect of tubal ligation on lipid profile, ovarian reserve and hot flashes during perimenopausal years. A total of 210 perimenopausal women complaining of abnormal vaginal bleeding were enrolled for the study. Subjects&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39; menstrual, reproductive and medical histories were recorded. Serum FSH, LH and estradiol levels were screened in all women to determine menopausal status. In order to rule out any gynecologic pathology, all subjects underwent transvaginal sonography. Women were divided into two groups according to presence (study group, n = 68) or absence (control group, n = 142) of tubal ligation history. Lipid profiles and ovarian reserve tests were compared between groups. Mean age, parity, serum hemoglobin (Hb), high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), triglyceride, estradiol levels, endometrial thickness and frequency of hot flashes were significantly different between groups (p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.05). Mean age was 42.8 ± 1.9 years in women with tubal ligation and 45.9 ± 3.5 years in control group. Mean serum estradiol level was lower in group with tubal ligation (41.4 versus 92.5 pg/ml). Mean endometrial thickness was higher in control group (10.2 versus 7.5 mm). Age-adjusted serum Hb, HDL-C, triglyceride, estradiol, FSH level, endometrial thickness and frequency of hot flashes remained significantly different between groups (p &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; 0.05). Tubal ligation is associated with unfavorable lipid profile and higher frequency of hot flashes during perimenopausal years.

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is among the most common and destructive diseases in the neonatal period. Imaging methods are important in the early diagnosis and treatment of such diseases. Ultrasound elastography (USE) is a fast and non-invasive imaging technique that deals with the viscoelastic properties of tissues. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of USE, which determines tissue stiffness with grayscale and colored images, as an imaging tool in the diagnosis and treatment of NEC. Materials and Methods: Sixteen newborn Wistar albino gender rats were separated into two groups including eight rats each. The first group (G-I) was taken as a control group and was not exposed to any intervention. The second group (G-II) was exposed to 100% CO2 for 5 minutes and 4°C for 10 minutes. All these interventions were applied twice per day for 4 days. We observed elastographic data at 24, 48, and 96 hours. All rats were sacrificed on the fourth ...
