DIY Temporary Tattoos

Temporary tattoos can be made using henna, eyeliner, or just writing on someone with a marker, but if you want to trace a design you cannot draw freehand here's a technique using tracing paper, eyeliner, rubbing alcohol, talcum powder, and liquid bandage spray.

Arts weblog Charlotte Is Not My Name shares this technique for creating temporary tattoos that last three or four days:

  1. Trace your desired image on tracing paper with a pencil and cut it out.

  2. Scrub your skin where you wish to apply the image with rubbing alcohol.

  3. Place the drawing pencil side down on your skin and cover with a wet washcloth.

  4. You'll now have a light outline of the image on your skin. Draw the lines of the tattoo with eyeliner.

  5. Add a bit of talcum powder to the image to prevent smearing.

  6. Spray the temporary tattoo with liquid bandage spray to make it waterproof.

This can be a fun mini-project for your upcoming Halloween costume or to try out a tattoo idea before getting permanently inked.
