Garvey told WHDH that she thought there was no way she could've swallowed it because because she 'wasn't in pain during prom or anytime after'.
She didn't actually swallow the boutonniere, but she inhaled it.
Emerson told the station: 'I was scared the pin was there and I said "Oh my god did you swallow it?", and she said, "I don't know."'
Garvey, who is a senior at Wellesley High School, said she thought the pin might have gotten lost.
The next day Garvey took a precautionary trip to the hospital, and doctors were shocked to see the pin sitting in her bronchial tubes, WHDH reported.
It took doctors 45 minutes to remove the pin.
Garvey said that doctors told her they were shocked that with all the dancing at prom the pin 'didn't puncture anything or scrape anything on the way down'.
She told the station her prom was an unforgettable experience from the time Emerson asked her to prom on the Red Sox jumbotron at Fenway Park up until the big night when she inhaled the pin.
