My eyelash journey started about two years ago around the time when lash extensions really caught on. I tried them and loved them—at first—but after they grew out, I noticed that my natural lashes had become seriously weak and sparse. I had no choice but to keep getting extensions. After about three sets I finally stopped because the falsies didn't look real, they were hard to maintain, and I hated the imbalance of upper and lower lashes.
That's when I decided to try prescription eyelash lengthening serum, Latisse. I used Latisse for about a year and really liked it. I only used it every other night, otherwise it would irritate my eyelids. I picked up a small eyeliner brush from M.A.C to use instead of the disposable brushes that are included in the package. Using the M.A.C brush saved a lot of product. One bottle lasted six months.
Then I got pregnant, which meant no more Latisse (the serum hasn't been tested on pregnant women and I didn't want to take any chances). After I had my baby, I decided to look into other lash growth serums. I was (and still am) breastfeeding so Latisse wasn't an option. Then I tried Revitalash. It costs about the same as Latisse, but you don't need a prescription and it comes with a really easy to use applicator that doesn't waste product. I started off slowly, using Revitalash only every other night before bed. I gradually worked it up to every night and after eight weeks I had a long, lush set of lashes. I also used the serum on my bottom lashes and those grew longer and thicker as well.
But still that wasn't enough! How could I get the false lash look without actually having to get fake lashes? After doing some Instagram research, I found the Keratin Lash Lift, a treatment designed to darken and lift lashes without adding false strands. "With this procedure your natural lashes are lifted up and filled with a special pigment infusion," explains Los Angeles lash specialist Elysee Zhadikpur. "As a result, you have thick, dark, long lashes that beautifully curve upwards."
I booked an appointment at Zhadikpur's Beverly Hills studio for a lash lift and lash tint. I did experience a bit of irritation, but it was tolerable. I was in and out in under two hours. It's been one month since my lash treatment and I still wake up every day with beautiful lashes. I haven't touched my eyelash curler in weeks! The boosting and lifting effect lasts for 8 to12 weeks, which is the natural life cycle of the eyelash. I still apply the Revitalash to my eyelids and lower lashes every night. I am now using the keratin lash conditioner from Elysee as well. For a natural approach to lash growth, Zhadikpur recommends applying a mix of castor oil, coconut oil, and almond oil to lashes every night: "You will have beautiful long lashes within a month."
I highly recommend this treatment to anyone who wants fuller, longer, and darker lashes without extensions.
