Kangana Ranuat adds she wants a French vacation, where she can rent a flat and cook her own food.

What’s the best birthday gift you have ever received?
For some reason, I don’t like accepting gifts. I don’t know how weird it sounds, but I find the entire idea (of exchanging gifts) a bit childish.

Any special gift that you still cherish?
I don’t know if it can be called a gift, but on my previous birthday, my mother handed me payals (anklets) that my grandmother left for me before she passed away. That will always remain special.

Do you like suprise bashes?
Not exactly. In fact, I am not fond of surprise birthdays. Whenever it happens, you have to act all embarrassed and surprised, but I find it a bit odd. You are standing like a kid — with a cake in hand — with people clapping for you. I hope it doesn’t happen this time. Every year, my friends promise me that they won’t do it, but they always come up with a surprise.

What are you looking forward to this year?
I want to take my directorial plans ahead. On a personal level, I plan to go on a French vacation for around a month. The idea is to rent an apartment somewhere, cook my own food and live life sans work pressure. If all goes well, by the end of this year, I will take that break.

Professionally, the year looks great for you.
I am doing a lot of interesting films, including a few women-oriented projects. I love the attention and importance I get during such films. When it comes to these movies, everyone is aware that the film hinges on them. So you become valuable. Plus, of course, the kind of creative satisfaction you get is unparalleled.

Actor turns 26 today; plans to take a break after finishing all her under-production films

She is all of 26, but Kangana Ranaut is one of the busiest actors (with films like Shootout At Wadala, Revolver Rani, Queen, Ungli and Krrish 3 in the pipeline) in Bollywood. Which is why it hardly comes as a surprise that the actor plans to take a break. For a month she wants to go to France and live by herself. Kangana is planning to go by the end of the year. “Professionally, things look great in the coming year. So I am eagerly looking forward to it,” says the actor. On her birthday, she talks about birthdays past, celebrating her special day, the most cherished gifts she’s received and the year ahead.
