Amateur Mess

Early on in Shakalaka Boom Boom, a publicist (Celina Jaitley) sleeps with upcoming singer Reggie (Upen Patel). As they lie together after, she says, "You rock big time Reggie." He sniggers, "I'm the best baby." This comically banal exchange sums up the tenor of the film. Shakalaka... is an amateurish mess. AJ (Bobby Deol) is a rock star with braided hair and a lurid wardrobe who sings in Hindi but rules the US charts. When Reggie threatens AJ's stardom, he schemes and plots to derail Reggie's career. But just when you think he will get away with it, a crystal ball descends on his head, thankfully, putting an end to his music and the movie.
