As soon as the trailer of Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu Returns hit social media platforms and the television screens, the franchise's newest entrant, Datto, became a topic of discussion.
Kangana Ranaut, who is on a professional high currently and is being talked about for her versatility as an actor, is the lifeline of this film. She not only reprises her role as Tanu in the sequel, but also essays the role of Datto, a Haryanvi athlete. But, of course, the transformation wasn't easy to achieve. Here's a look at Kangana's bootcamp.
1) LOOK:
Many look trials took place. Several permutations and combinations of wigs and dentures were tried. About 10 sets of dentures were tried and tested to get it right before the look was finalised. Makeup artiste Vikram Gaikwad was hired to develop this look.
2) COSTUME:
To get the authenticity of the look, the designer visited the local markets in Haryana and even observed athletes and local Haryanvi girls.
3) HARYANVI ACCENT:
Kangana visited Delhi University, where she met and talked to many female students on the campus. A team from Tanu Weds Manu Returns went to Haryana to capture videos of Haryanvi girls daily routine and their lifestyle. A Haryanvi accent and language trainer was assigned. Kangana did intense workshops to master the accent and dialect with her trainer, who was present on set all through the shoot.
Kangana's transformation into Datto will surprise people. The actress, who is known to get under the skin of her character, talks about the challenge she faced while becoming Datto. "She has severely tested my abilities as an artiste, I had to completely let go of all the nuance and the characteristics I used for Tanu. I could not reuse or repeat any of them. It was difficult but gratifying and the response has been overwhelming," says Kangana.
Tanu Wed Manu Returns, produced by Eros International and Colour Yellow Productions, releases May 22.
