Pankaj Advani is a phenomenon: Savur

MADURAI: "Pankaj Advani, the phenomenon in Indian cue sports, who has won three world titles even before he was 20, should continue to be so for many years and bring laurels to the country' said his coach, mentor and guide Arvind Savur who has come down to Madurai to participate in the Royal Court Trophy snooker tournament, during a chat with The Hindu.

Pankaj won the World snooker championship at China at the age of 18 in 2003 and the World billiards title in both the 150-points and time-format at Malta this year.

"Pankaj will shine both in Billiards and snooker but he is too strong in snooker and hence he is to concentrate on snooker. But there are many hurdles. He is a commerce student and to continue his studies further. But to be on top of the world he needs exposure to play with the top players. It would be possible only if he lives in England for at least five years and that would be at a huge cost. If some sponsors come forward it would be better for the game," said Savur.

Arvind was all praise for the excellent and successful conduct of the one-lakh event sponsored Royal Court Hotels and conducted jointly by Madurai District Billiards Association and Pot Black Centre, especially the centre's partners - Senthil and Kudooz. — Sports Correspondent
