CHENNAI: K Ramanujam, a 1978 batch IPS officer, assumed charge as Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu from outgoing DGP Bhola Nath on Friday. Bhola Nath had replaced Letika Saran as state police chief on the orders of the Election Commission. "The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder in the state," said Ramanujam after taking charge at a function held at the DGP's office around 1.30 pm.
He said the police force has a great responsibility to maintain law and order. "Our duty is to serve the law impartially," Ramanujam said.
