RESERVATION FOR IDIGA, KURUBA COMMUNITIES
Namadharis see red over Gowda’s statement
DH News Service Honnavar:
The Honnavar taluk Namadhari sangha has strongly condemned the statement of former prime minister Deve Gowda regarding the revision of reservation quota for Idiga and Kuruba community who come under the category, I (A)

In a press meet held here on Tuesday, Vaman Naik, President of the Sangha said that Gowda, to settle the scores of personal enmity with the leaders of these communities, was making all the community members as victims.

In a seperate press meet on the same day, former minister, R N Naik termed Deve Gowda's statement as politicaly motivated. The former PM seems to be desperate in his struggle to keep his existence in the fluid political situation, Naik said. Though what Gowda said couldn't be implemented, it has kindled the enmity among different castes, he added. Calling Minister D T Jayakumar as opportunist, Mr Naik said that his statement about Idigas and Kurubas that they were devouring all the benifits meant for other castes was misguiding and an attempt to please Deve gowda. He urged Deve Gowda to withdraw his statement immediately.

The UK district Devaraj Urs Vichara Vedike has described Deve Gowda's statement regarding reservation as a divide and rule policy.

In a press note, Vedike's convenor Anant Naik Heggar said that there were many instances of Deve Gowda opposing the welfare programmes meant for backward class people. “Devegouda had opposed the implementation of tenancy act, the reports of the backward class commissions like Chinnappa Reddy, Havanoor, Venkataswami commissions, the press note added.

“Why did he begin to speak like the saviour of certain castes all of a sudden,” he wondered. The vedike also urged Gowda to shed petty politics and behave like a true statesman, expected of a former PM.
