In memory of Laura Henderson

I am going to tell you about Laura and why this fundraiser has been set up and also why we loved her so much. Laura is a beautiful, kind and thoughtful person, who will be most remembered for her radiant smile which lit up every room that she entered. Laura had dreams of a life with her young family that she will not get to fulfil. This is something that we never thought we would ever have to go through. We always imagined Laura in our lives. We have all created amazing memories with her that we will treasure forever.
On the 27th of March, Laura’s Saturday morning was the same as usual. She walked her dog Skye, kissed goodbye to her partner Ross and her daughter, Summer, before going for a run in the park with her two friends. Laura would never return home. We are heartbroken.
Laura was taken to the Golden Jubilee Hospital where they did everything possible to give us some hope. Unfortunately, despite the best care and attention possible, we took the decision to allow Laura to go to sleep peacefully on the 31st of March. Laura, who was just 42 when she died, touched the lives of so many around her.
Laura’s wish was to help others after her death, and this played a big part in our decision to say our final goodbyes to Laura. We hope that by respecting her wish to donate her organs that families do not need to experience the pain and sorrow we are suffering. Hopefully Laura’s gift to others ensures that a daughter has a mother to kiss goodnight, a brother has a sister to recall happy childhood memories with, a mother and father have a daughter to treasure and be their pride and joy and best friends will not only share a friend’s funniest stories but get to live them. Hopefully Laura’s legacy is that a partner is able to hold his loved one closely before going to sleep and then waken her gently the following morning. That would be Laura’s wish.
Many friends of Laura’s have been in touch and asked the family if they can donate to a particular cause in her memory. It has been a source of great comfort in hearing all the stories about Laura and how loved she was by so many people. We have taken some time to consider how people wishing to remember Laura can make an impact. This will ensure Laura continues to positively influence the lives of others after she is gone.
When we were at our lowest, we were comforted greatly from the staff at the Golden Jubilee. This was under extremely difficult circumstances but the care and understanding we were shown helped us to say goodbye to Laura in a loving way. We also received support from a number of bereavement charities, and this may be a resource for Ross, Molly and Summer in the weeks, months and years ahead. Despite Laura’s passing being sudden we were able to create touching mementoes that may comfort Summer when she is older. We hope to fundraise to help contribute to organisations making memory boxes for the children and families of loved ones they have lost.
For those of you who have reached out in regard to supporting the family at this painful time, it is very much appreciated & if you are able, please give a donation to help in supporting the above causes, which we will divide between them. We also want to build a memorial bench where Laura took her dog Skye on her favourite walks.
