Here Comes Another Climate Deadline That Will Pass Without Notice

We’ve heard so many declarations that our “last chance” to avoid global warming has arrived that we’ve lost count of the number of times the world has ended. But the sirens continue to wail, the latest from a United Nations grandee who says humanity has to act “now or never” to avoid overheating its host planet. Pardon us while we yawn.

According to Jim Skea, a European academic who co-chairs the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group III, “it’s now or never, if we want to limit global warming” to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Keeping Earth’s temperatures in check “will be impossible,” he said, “without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors.”

Skea’s comment arrived wrapped up in Working Group III’s just-released report on global warming mitigation, part of the IPCC’s sixth climate assessment. The media, which loves to breathlessly report the demise of the world caused by human carbon dioxide emissions, says the 1.5-degree limit “is recognized as a crucial global target because beyond this level, so-called tipping points become more likely. These are thresholds at which small changes can lead to dramatic shifts in Earth’s entire life support system.”

OK, then. But let’s back up a moment. Or maybe 13 years. That’s when Prince Charles said, with a deep, trust-me earnestness, that our world had only “100 months to act” before we had done so much damage that the effects of global warming would become irreversible.

Then last year, about 150 months after his previous doomsday prediction, the prince said that the upcoming climate summit in Glasgow was “quite literally … the last chance saloon” to stop the scourge of warming.

Yes, one man is a university researcher, the other an effete figurehead. But they have a common thread. They’re both wrong. And are unlikely to be right in their lifetimes.

Of course their false alarms are not exceptional. More than a half-century of global warming warnings have come and gone with the sky exactly where it was on the first Earth Day in 1970. The fact that it hasn’t fallen has left the end-of-the-world cult with no choice but to continue to recalibrate its projections.

And that’s exactly what it will do, because the global warming scare isn’t about the environment, or saving man from himself. It’s about what has been accurately labeled as a “transformative” agenda to change governance in the West toward more authoritarian systems and to squeeze the life out of capitalism.

The truth about global warming, man-made climate change, or whatever it is to be called by the smart people these days, is that while man’s CO2 emissions likely have some effect on the climate – it is, after all, a greenhouse gas, though weak and only a minute part of the atmosphere, a little more than 400 parts per million – its impact is not enough to be a threat of much if any consequence.

Yet the media and Western politics are filled with forecasts of impending disaster. Much of the fearmongering rises from the summary statements for policymakers and the press that are “based” on the IPCC’s full reports. These summaries, written by U.N. or U.S. government agency staff, are “often erroneous or misleading,” says Steven Hayward, Claremont Institute senior fellow as well as a senior resident scholar at the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California Berkeley.

And “like the children’s game of telephone,” they “get mangled further by journalists and politicians,” he says. “It ought to be a scandal.”

Some scientists have even resigned from their positions with IPCC in protest because they didn’t want to be associated with the day-of-judgment-by-fire summaries that don’t accurately reflect their work in the comprehensive documents.

Meanwhile, the public is relentlessly bombarded with tales of destruction that never materialize. We’d say the alarmists should be humbled by their failures, but they’ve shown they have zero sense of shame.

  • Guess lefties don’t know about Crying Wolf too often. Keep it up, you delusionalists. These clods must watch the Walter Pidgeon movie “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” wistfully. The country IS watching.

  • https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/18399/russia-energy-scam Global Research have reached similar conclusions. Our headless chicken politicians are playing into the hands of the West’s traditional enemies and economic rivals. While posturing as so concerned and protective of the planet , they endorse-nay, encourage other countries to increase pollution. Who in their right mind believes you can save the planet by ceasing to produce fossil fuel, while encouraging other states, some the worst polluters and human rights abusers, to increase production. Seems only a few months ago, Biden was going to bring KSA to account for murdering a US citizen. Yet days ago, he was on his knees grovelling to that same KSA, to produce more oil to help relieve his own ignorant “policies.” ( appeasing the radical left loonies in his Party, whose remit is to destroy Capitalism.) Boy! America can sure pick ’em.

  • Climate will do what climate will do as it has for hundreds of millions of years. Meanwhile, decisions and policy need to be based on hard fact.

There are crucial facts about human-generated carbon dioxide and its effect on global warming climate activists overlook that undermine their case. People need to know and understand those facts. They are assembled, with authoritative supporting references, at:

By all means follow the links in the citations; some of them are very educational.

  • One would think, after so many false predictions, that the IPCC and other climate lobby organizations would slither back into the holes they crawled from but, no, that’s just wishful thinking. The reality is that climate change is so far down the average person’s list of priorities after inflation, jobs, economy, and not getting nuked by Russia that the empty suits pushing this nonsensical proposed theft of trillions of taxpayer dollars have essentially no power to enact their scams. They tried driving the price of energy up to a ridiculous level in order to kick-start alternative energy investment, but now they’ve got to contend with an electorate that’s screaming for their scalps since the public can no longer afford beer and an evening out with the significant other. There really is no free lunch, lefties. You will lose power in the next election at virtually every level (federal, state, local, dog catcher). Which will give you more time to spend with your family. No, scratch that. Your families don’t want you, either.

  • I recently made a daring move to the south where it is 5 degrees warming on average as to my previous locale. I’m happy to say that in spite of a 5 degree difference there are still humans and animals living in the new town. They must have learned to adapt or something.

  • I believe this whole global warming hysteria has been going on since at least the early 70’s. Now I am nearly 60 now and have lived in many parts of the USA and the world. In all that time I have seen no drastic climate changes anywhere I have been. I hope our politicians will come to their senses and start defunding the movement, especially at the University level. Only then will this scaremongering fade away.

  • “Man-made climate change,” which is what they’re calling it this week, has never been about the climate, the planet, the atmosphere, the biosphere, or any of that claptrap. It’s about the seizure and strangulation of Western capitalism and the installation of the New World Order they’ve cooked up.

It is not a “hoax.” It is a scam on a scale never before attempted.

There are a lot of kool-aid drinkers wandering around loose these days. But the saddest, most hideous, and most dangerous of the lot are the climate freaks.

  • To be a leftist is to be wrong all the time. That must be why they hate themselves.

  • But according to the Eco-Freaks from back in the late 1960’s and early 70’s we were already suppost to be a dead planet over all the Pollution.Looks like the Earth is Not Fragile as we have been told by the Eco-Freaks and the M.S. Media

  • The Navier Stokes differential equations describe fluid flow with changes in temperature and density, in other words, both weather and climate. They are nonlinear, chaotic, with sensitive dependence on initial conditions. That means no finite set of past data can ever be sufficient to predict even a single distant state measurement with confidence. This has been known since 1963 when Edward Lorenz published “Deterministic Nonperiodic Flow” in the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences. Anyone who pretends to predict distant state measurements for a Navier Stokes system with confidence is either incompetent, or a fraud, or both.
