How are we Going to Make Jackson Rise? Cooperative Enterprise!
The Jackson Rising: New Economies Conference was an initiative to lay a solid foundation for the transformation of Jackson, Mississippi into a noted center and example of economic democracy. The conference centered on providing the public with a baseline of information and training to pursue the process of building strong cooperatives and other forms of worker owned enterprises and financial institutions that will create jobs with dignity, stability, living wages, and quality benefits for Jacksonians.
The primary objectives of the Conference were to stimulate and facilitate the creation of cooperative enterprises in Jackson to meet the unmet economic and social needs of the community. It also served as a space to launch Cooperation Jackson. Cooperation Jackson is an emerging cooperative network based in Jackson that is building four-interdependent and interconnected institutions: a federation of emerging worker cooperatives, a cooperative incubator, a cooperative education and training center, and a cooperative bank or financial institution.
