Prepare the Perfect Basmati


Stove Top Soak rice 15-30 minutes for extra length (optional). Take 1 cup of Royal Basmati Rice and gently rinse twice to remove starch. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan with a tight-fitting lid. Add 1 cup rice, cover and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes or until water is absorbed. Once the cooking process is complete, leave the cooked rice in the pan for 5 minutes.	Microwave Take 1 cup of Royal Basmati Rice and gently rinse twice to remove starch. Drain the rice and add 2¼ cups of water. Cover tightly with a microwave-safe lid and cook on HIGH power setting for 15 minutes.* Remove from microwave. CAUTION: BOWL WILL BE HOT If rice is too hard in the first cooking, use more water. Use less water if it is too soft. *Microwave ovens vary	Electric Cooker Take 1 cup of Royal Basmati Rice and gently rinse twice to remove starch. Use 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of dry rice. Very good rice. Price is great, free prime shipping. What’s not to love? Ignore the reviews claiming “plastic rice”. It’s a sort of hysteria (seriously, look it up online, the complaints even spurred a formal investigation that found zero credibility) Rice is a very starchy compound, and when cooked it can be turned into a rubbery-like (edible) substance by simply rolling it into a ball with your hands. People do this and then think it’s plastic or rubber. lol. Think about that..if you cooked plastic or rubber you would smell it. It would smell awful. You would see residue, and lastly you would absolutely taste it 🤮. So no, no plastic or rubber here folks. Just very good quality Basmati rice that cooks up excellent in an Instant Pot. 2 cups rice, 2.2 cups water preferably filtered. 4 min high pressure, allow a natural pressure release (don’t use the pressure release valve). Bam, perfect rice every time! Who needs a rice cooker if you have an Instant Pot!

Basmati rice has an excellent aroma. Royal brand does not disappoint. The price is competitive. Many might not like my method of cooking rice in an Instapot, but it works for me. Rinsed the rice until water runs clear. Soaked 1 cup rice for 15 minutes. Drained off that water, and added 1 cup rice, 1 1/4 cup water, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and a pinch of salt. High pressure for 8 minutes, then 9 minutes natural release. Delicious, long separate grains. And the aroma is nice.

Ok, many of ya'll had me freaking out that I bought a 15 lb bag of plastic pieces. I gave the bag a sniff test, and couldnt pick up any aroma. Doesn't basmati rice emanate a luscious aroma? So I looked up other brands (well known) and saw similar comments about the rice not having an aroma. Then I decided that the only way I would know is just to cook some. First I added a little to a plain pan and proceeded to "toast" it on my gas top stove. I figured if there were plastic bits, I would see it, smell it right? Nothing unusual to be noted. Threw that out, and took fresh rice to add to my rice cooker (rinsed well first). I made according to my machines directions. As it cooked I could smell the aroma that I expected. When it was done, the pieces were perfect. Not sticky, totally fluffy. No gumminess. Tasted as it should.

Then I wanted to look over the plastic bag within the burlap sack. In order to pull it out I had to pour out some rice. Glad I did this because once in a bowl (2 quart size), I put my nose to it and could smell the rice just fine. There's that aroma! After I pulled out the plastic bag with remainder of rice, I looked it over for holes, bugs, and debris. No bugs, no debris. I did see some tiny holes. Very small, and I could tell that they were/are most likely puncture marks from the rice. Not many, but enough for me to double bag it with another plastic bag I had on hand. Then I slid it back into the burlap bag and put back what I took out. Really, no problems. I had this at 4 stars, but once I really worked with it and looked it over, I can say that I am pleased. Very happy that the rice is in a plastic bag and not just in burlap.

I would consider this again depending on price. I was able to get a 15lb bag for $20 (on sale). I can get 1lb bags at local $Tree for 1.25 per lb, so I didnt really save any buying this.. but it saved me a trip.

This is the third rice variety that I have tried in the last two months, and I can say that it is by far better than the previous two. I have cooked this rice several times in the past few weeks, and it has a very good taste and puffs up well, but it has an average fragrance. I have made this rice both in my electric pressure cooker and in a gas pot, and it was well-cooked in both. In my opinion, the most important thing in cooking rice is to add the right amount of water. Based on my experience, if the amount of water is enough to reach a phalanx above the surface of the rice, it cooks well and does not become pasty. This is the rice that I will order again, although I would prefer it if next time they paid more attention to the packaging. I hope that the next time I order this rice, the bag will be better, with a top zipper that closes easily after use.
