We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luca Buzas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Luca , appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage my own social media and I have actually been able to help other companies manage their social media channels as well with the skills I have acquired from my own career.
In the past 10 years as a celebrity stylist and makeup artist, I’ve had the privilege to work with many different clients and brands to shape their brand identities. I feel it is very important to have a social media presence nowadays because when a new customer comes to your social media channels they immediately see your work, your style, what you are selling and if it appeals to them or not.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been exposed to several creative fields since I was very young. In my current job, I love to create, work with actors and models to make them feel confident in front of the camera. It’s my ultimate goal to ensure my clients feel a sense of confidence in themselves and/or pride in their businesses.
Working in the creative fields has been a passion of mine for a very long time. I’ve currently taken my decades of passion and have found purpose in it. For me, styling, working as a hair stylist/makeup artist and production coordinator is not just about making people or commercials look pretty, it’s about curating unique looks and strategies that compliment my clients.
I have had a very exciting journey in my life and career since I moved from Budapest, Hungary, where I am originally from. After completing my studies at ModArt International, I moved to Asia where I began my career as a fashion designer. Soon after my move, styling and advertising jobs started to pick up, which allowed me to create a dynamic portfolio. In 2017 I moved to Los Angeles to take my career to the next level in the United States and have been moving up in the industry ever since.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The entertainment industry teaches you about resilience very quickly. As a freelancer, you are always hustling and waiting for the next project. Everything can change in seconds so you have to be very aware and adaptable to any situation. My personal journey has taken me from Hungary To Shanghai to Los Angeles all within a period of 11 years.
The biggest test of my resilience came when I moved to Los Angeles. The cultural differences and the challenge of staying financially afloat in one of the most expensive cities in the United States provided an environment in which I needed to stay incredibly disciplined to move forward.
Luckily, I had reached out to producers and companies within my field before making the move to Los Angeles, which eventually allowed me to get my start on set and in production. I have been fortunate to have grown a large network of very talented collaborators with whom I work with seamlessly and continue to grow with to this day.
The fashion and entertainment industry taught me to be a very strong and resilient woman. You have to move forward, never questioning your abilities because the best projects are yet to happen.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media and word of mouth have been the best source of new clients for me. Thankfully producers, directors and repeat clients have been wonderful to work with and they keep recommending me within their network for the future projects.
