Our Commitment to Accessibility

April 2024

Wiley is committed to unlocking human potential, empowering our customers to achieve success in both their educational and professional careers. Wiley continues to innovate and evolve to make knowledge and learning accessible, both as a company and as people who are passionate about education. Accessible products aim to ensure that researchers, learners, and educators have equal access to information, learning tools, and functionality regardless of age, ability, or situation. We are dedicated to implementing accessible features in Wiley Online Library according to universal accessibility standards.

How we support accessibility

We measure accessibility according to the standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 A/AA, Revised Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act, and EN 301 549.

Achieving our accessibility goals involves:

  • Following the born-accessible principle for all new feature/functionality releases and including accessibility requirements in all development phases — user experience and design, development, and quality assurance.
  • Partnering with TetraLogical, a leader in accessibility consultancy, to evaluate our product’s accessibility. A full summary of Wiley Online Library’s overall level of compliance is detailed in our Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). Key support features include:
    • Alternative text equivalents for platform images
    • Headings and labels that describe a topic and/or identify a purpose
    • Content that can be operated with a keyboard without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes
    • Content that does not restrict its view and operation to a single display orientation
    • Consistent navigation
    • A user authentication process that does not rely on a cognitive function test
  • Committing to future accessibility work. Accessibility is a journey and development teams continue to develop features to ensure the platform meets the latest accessibility standards. This includes estimated timelines in our Accessibility Roadmap to address areas where the VPAT indicates the product doesn’t fully meet the criteria set against the current accessibility guidelines.
  • Providing colleagues at all levels of the organization with ongoing accessibility training and documentation to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills needed to produce quality products and services.
