We are thrilled to share that Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans received the prestigious Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the fifth time 🎉! Receiving Magnet recognition is a great achievement for OMC-New Orleans, firmly placing the hospital in the top level for professional nursing practices. Only 10% of over 6,300 U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition, and 1% of all U.S. hospitals have received it five times. "We couldn't be prouder of our team of OMC – New Orleans nurses for achieving this prestigious recognition," said Tiffany Murdock, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Ochsner Health. "Our nurses at Ochsner continually deliver top-tier care and actively cultivate their skills through steady education, professional certification, research, and outcomes rooted in evidence. It's an honor to represent this exceptional group of nurses who passionately live their purpose every day to care for our patients, support one another and be voices for the constant evolution of nursing." For nurses, a Magnet recognition means education and development through every career stage, leading to greater bedside autonomy. For patients, national studies have found that hospitals with Magnet status have lower patient mortality, fewer medical complications, better patient care outcomes and improved quality of care. Congratulations to our exceptional nurses at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans for their relentless dedication and hard work, which have led to this prestigious recognition. Your commitment to excellence is truly inspiring! Are you interested in joining an award-winning nursing team? Visit https://lnkd.in/giDmDtS.

Just over a year ago, Ochsner Health, in partnership with Xavier University of Louisiana, announced our plans for a new historically black college and university (HBCU) medical school in Louisiana to help address physician shortages and give more career opportunities to underrepresented students, helping to improve health outcomes for patients and community members across our region. Today, on April 29, we shared our continued progress in launching the transformational Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM). Through the establishment of XOCOM, Xavier and Ochsner aspire to redefine the landscape of medicine by training new physicians who authentically mirror the communities they serve. Slated to be the only HBCU medical school in the Gulf South when it opens, XOCOM expands opportunities for New Orleans’ downtown area as part of the BioDistrict, a development district growing biosciences and the local economy. As XOCOM advances healthcare equity and expands the physician workforce in the Gulf South, the medical school will also help the BioDistrict lead the region in healthcare excellence and promote inclusive, equitable job growth. At the momentous XOCOM signing celebration, Xavier and Ochsner officials proudly announced that Leonardo Seoane M.D., F.A.C.P., executive vice president and chief academic officer of Ochsner Health, will serve as the new HBCU medical school’s founding dean.  Xavier University of Louisiana will seek approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which is expected to take about three years, followed by recruitment. XOCOM aims to seat 50 students in the first class, and the medical school will continue to grow as it develops. Thank you to all who have made XOCOM possible, including the Xavier University of Louisiana Board of Trustees, the Ochsner Health Board of Directors, and local and state officials. The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) celebrated its 30th Anniversary Celebration and Leadership Summit, with significant participation from Ochsner Health. This event paid tribute to decades of accomplishments spearheaded by a dedicated Hispanic physician workforce and highlighted their role in shaping healthcare. The NHMA has led the charge, rallying both emerging and experienced medical professionals, students, and healthcare advocates to bridge the gaps in the physician workforce, amplify the voices of minority doctors, and champion equitable healthcare access for underserved communities. Leonardo Seoane M.D., F.A.C.P., chief academic officer at Ochsner and NHMA board member, was important in guiding meaningful workshops and discussions. We congratulate Julia Staisch, MD, a movement disorder specialist, who was honored as one of NHMA's' 40 Under 40 Outstanding Health Professionals'. Her pioneering work in Deep Brain Stimulation significantly enhances the quality of life for those battling Parkinson's disease and inspires us all. Furthermore, we applaud Tabitha Baca, a fourth-year medical student at The University of Queensland Medical School - Ochsner for her influential contribution to a paper on physician advocacy. In partnership with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, Ochsner Rush Health proudly hosted an event marking National Donate Life Month. Asad Khan, MD, an interventional pulmonologist, shares why organ donation is so important. “That single person can impact in terms of major organs up to 8 different lives. However, their tissue donation, their eye donation, organ donation, can impact up to 75 different lives in life-saving measures and life-changing measures. So, one individual, that selfless act from their loved ones from declaring themselves as an organ donor. While they are living can have a tremendous impact on all those people waiting on their transplant list,” said Dr. Khan. These gathering shines a light on the critical importance of organ donation and celebrates the countless lives transformed through this selfless act. From the first note to the last, the first Saturday of the The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc. 2024 has been nothing short of spectacular! 🎷🎶 Ochsner proudly serves as the official healthcare provider, entering our fourth year of running medical operations. Our medical teams have been working hard to ensure everyone's health and safety. Plus, our cool-down misting tents and sunscreen kiosks provided much-needed relief from the sun, keeping festival-goers cool and protected. 💦 A huge shoutout to the over 70 Ochsner Serves volunteers who've dedicated their time to making this festival, from retail booths to concession stands, run smoothly. The Ochsner Children's Activity Tent was a hub of excitement for our young fest-goers. From interactive games to educational activities, our Education & Community Outreach team had a blast bringing fun, STEM-focused health and wellness activities to families, sparking curiosity and smiles. 🔬 And let's not forget the vital protection against the Louisiana sun, courtesy of our partnership with SunStop Kiosks, for Ochsner’s free sunscreen dispensers scattered around the festival grounds. 🌞 Here's to more music, culture, community and care that make Jazz Fest an unforgettable experience. See you out there! #JazzFest2024 #OchsnerServes
