Permissions & Licensing

If you’re looking to reprint, republish, or reuse our editorial content, the information below provides guidelines for circumstances when you may not need to reach out to us directly for a license, how to get in touch when your use does require a license, and details about situations when we may be unable to respond to your requests.

Please note: these guidelines are for editorial content ONLY. We typically do not license content that is disclosed as “Advertiser Content.”

I) Permitted Sharing Of Vox Media Content

There are several ways you can share our content that do NOT require a license or permission from us. For example:

Integrated Share Tools or Embed Codes: You may share our content by using the integrated share tools where available, e.g. embed codes or share buttons on Instagram, YouTube, or on any Vox Media site.

Playlist on YouTube: You may add our content to your YouTube playlist.

Linking: You may share a link to our content, including using the headline of an article or title of a video, and link back to the original publication of the Vox Media content.

II) Permitted Non-Commercial Educational Classroom Use

We know that much of our written, video, and audio content may fit well into a classroom curriculum and can provide valuable information for students, and as such we allow the non-commercial educational use of Vox Media editorial content under the guidelines below WITHOUT further permission from Vox Media.

Video: You may show our editorial videos to your students, but videos may only be accessed via the platform where they were originally published by Vox Media (e.g. YouTube). Unfortunately we are NOT able to facilitate alternate methods for you or your students to access the videos (e.g. requests for DVDs or downloadable video files).

Articles: You may provide print handouts of an editorial article from our websites on a limited basis for use in classrooms ONLY with the following conditions:

  • Classroom handouts must not edit or alter the original context of the article in any way.
  • Handouts may NOT be posted for download or display on Google Classroom, PowerSchool, Schoology, or any similar tool or learning management system.
  • Handouts may NOT be published on any website or digital platform.
  • Attribution should be maintained on all handouts and include the name of the writer, the original publication date, the name of Vox Media website, and URL of the original article.

To the extent your educational institution requires you to demonstrate that you have permission for your non-commercial education use, please show them this page.

PLEASE NOTE: The guidelines above apply ONLY to nonprofit, non-commercial educational use (e.g. elementary, high school, university, college). Commercial educational publishers (e.g. textbook publishers), events that require tickets, or any other commercial use must submit a request for a license – see instruction below in section V) All Other Requests.

III) Translation Requests

Personal Websites/Social Channels: We appreciate you enjoy our content and want to share it with your communities, however we do NOT grant individuals permission or a license to translate and republish, repost, or upload our content on a personal website or personal social media account (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).

Translation Tools: From time to time our content may be published on a platform that enables community translations through the services of that tool (e.g. YouTube’s community translations). You must comply with the guidelines for use of the translation tool at all times. NOTE: We do NOT review translations sent to us directly or respond to requests for such translation tools to be enabled.

IV) Reviews

Although there may be licensing opportunities for some reviews conducted by our editorial teams, we do NOT accept payments in exchange for reviewing a product or service. Please see our ethics policies for more information.
