Sick of hair that goes up, up and away? These expert tips and products will help you fight flyaways. Here are three simple ways to get rid of static and achieve smoother, sleeker strands:

1. Skip a day between shampooing.

"Washing your hair every day strips away natural scalp oils, causing tresses to become dry and brittle—and more prone to flyaways," explains Jenny Cho, celebrity stylist for Suave Professionals. A 24-hour break allows these oils to build up again so they can tame staticky strands.

2. Always use a daily conditioner.

We know, you had to be out the door 10 minutes ago...but don't skip this vital step after washing, recommends Jeni Thomas, PhD, Pantene static busters Pro-V's principal scientist. In addition to hydrating your locks, conditioners neutralize the static-causing negative charges often found in hair

3. Comb instead of brushing.

"Brushing causes friction between your hair and the bristles, which generates static electricity," says Cho. A better bet: using a wide-tooth comb. Its teeth are spaced farther apart to cut down on flyaway-causing friction. If you prefer to use a brush, look for one with boar bristles. These natural fibers are gentler on hair.

Check out these three products to help bust static:

1. A wide-tooth comb infused with olive oil will condition hair during styling. Try: RickyCare No-Frizz Jumbo Detangler Comb, $7.99; RickysNYC.com.

2. A conditioner packed with olive oil and keratin (a protein found naturally in hair) will keep strands moisturized. Try: TRESemmé Climate Control Conditioner, $5; at drugstores.

3. Since dry hair is more prone to flyaways, hydrating frizz-fighters will get the job done too. Try: göt2b Glossy Anti-Frizz Shine Serum, $5.99; at drugstores.
