6 Stylish Ways to Wear a Fanny Pack

As summer comes to a close and we gear up to wear the fall 2016 trends, it’s time to starting thinking about a bag that can move you into the next season. Often, when choosing which accessory to grab, the choice lies in an oversize carryall that you can literally shove everything in, from papers to much-needed end-of-day flats, or a minuscule mini bag that restricts you to the necessities: credit cards, cash, and keys. If you are one for editing, as we are—who wants an aching back and shoulders?!—there is a fashion-forward style that is calling your name: the fanny pack.

Slung low at the waist, the ‘90s throwback is no longer made in sad nylon and cast in icky brights. Think of Alexander Wang’s elevated cheetah-print shearling style complete with a padlock, or Gucci’s double-G monogram bag that's classic for a reason.

Kendall Jenner is already a fan, wearing hers on paparazzi-packed streets and in the pages of [Vogue](http://www.glamour.com/search?q=vogue), as is Jared Leto, whom we like to call the ultimate fanny pack ambassador. But the look doesn’t have to connote just Coachella-esque style. Here we break down six totally different ways to wear the fanny pack now.

The Throwback

Choose a basic back version that still feels modern. Marry with a bold, printed top and color-coordinated earrings. Throw on some denim cutoffs and you are music-festival-ready.

Opt for a structured fanny pack with a longer belt that will also serve as a waist cincher. Pair with an oversize men’s oxford and tailored pants. This look works perfectly for postwork cocktails. Look, no hands!

The athleisure trend is still not slowing down, so add a ladylike fanny pack with a sporty sweatshirt (we like graphics) or tailored sweatpants. A lace-up heel adds interest and makes it more evening-appropriate.

Swap your tried-and-true clutch for a colorful fanny pack that you can wear with a fit-and-flare dress. This is practically a no-brainer outfit and will have you out the door in minutes.

Cinch oversize menswear separates with a chain-link, quilted style. It’s as classic as can be and does double time as a belt for those sweeping trousers.
