How to Upgrade to YouTube Music Premium on Android

This wikiHow teaches you how to upgrade to Premium on YouTube Music for Android. Premium is YouTube Music's paid subscription. It costs $9.99 per month, and allows you to listen to music without ads, as well as listen to music in the background, and download music to take offline. YouTube Music offers a free 3-month trial. There is also a family plan that offers Premium for up to 6 family members for $14.99 per month.

Upgrading to Premium

  1. The YouTube Music app has an icon that resembles a red circular icon with a white triangle inside a smaller red circle. Tap the YouTube Music icon on your homescreen or apps drawer to open YouTube Music.
  2. Your user profile image is the circular image in the upper-right corner of the YouTube Music app. This displays a page with your Account information.

  3. It's the red button at the bottom of the Account information page.
    • If you have already done the Premium free trial, tap Paid Memberships, and then tap Turn On.
  4. It's the blue button in the center of the "Get Music Premium" page.
    • If you wish to do a free 1-month trial of the Family membership, tap the blue text that says family membership below the "Try it free" button. Then tap the blue Try it Free button in the "Family - 1-month free trial" box.
  5. You can pay with a credit or debit card, Paypal account, or have it billed through your mobile carrier. If you do not have a credit or debit card tied to your Google account, you will need to enter your credit card information. Likewise, if you don't have a Paypal account tied to your Google account, you will need to provide the email and password associated with your Paypal account.
  6. It's the red button at the bottom of the page that tells you you are a Premium member. If you do not wish to continue your Premium membership after the free trial, be sure to cancel before the free trial ends.

Upgrading to Premium Family

  1. Use the Steps in Method 1 to upgrade to YouTube Music Premium.
  2. Your profile image is the circular image in the upper-right corner of the YouTube Music app. This displays your Account information page.
  3. It's the third button below "Music Premium" on the Account page.
  4. It's the blue text at the bottom of the box at the top of the "Paid memberships" page. This displays a list of options at the bottom of the page.
  5. It's the second option in the list of options at the bottom of the page. This displays a pop-up confirmation message.
  6. It's in the lower-right corner of the confirmation message. This confirms that you want to upgrade and upgrades your account.

Canceling Premium

  1. The YouTube Music app has an icon that resembles a red circular icon with a white triangle inside a smaller white circle. Tap the YouTube Music icon on your homescreen or apps drawer to open YouTube Music.

  4. It's the last option in the list of options at the bottom of the screen.
  5. When you cancel, YouTube Music gives you a list of 7 reasons for canceling. If none of the reasons fit why you want to cancel, select "Other" at the bottom of the list, and then tap Next.
  6. This cancels your account at the end of your current billing cycle. You can enjoy the benefits of Premium until your current billing cycle ends.
