By car follow brown signs from A4 at Thatcham. About 30 minutes walk from Thatcham Railway Station (stopping services from Newbury, Reading and London Paddington). Cycle path between Newbury and Thatcham runs along Lower Way.

What to see: The LNR forms part of Thatcham Reedbeds SSSI (now Special Area for Conservation, SAC) which is the largest continual area of reedbed and fen in Berkshire and in inland southern England and are similar to those found in East Anglia. Wetland habitats include reedbeds, species rich fen, wet woodlands, standing and running water.
There are large numbers of the internationally rare Desmoulins whorl snail (Red Data Book species). Birds of note include Cetti's warbler, reed and sedge warblers and occasional visiting bearded tit and bittern. Uncommon moths including the scarce burnished brass and the obscure wainscot, both nationally notable species. Water voles have been recorded and fresh otter spraint seen in 2005 (Biodiversity Action Plan species).
