AGRA: Water supply to 15 wards in the city was affected on Friday due to leakages in pipelines at sector 8 Awas Vikas colony and near Jeevani Mandi water works station. Most residents did not receive water supply due to the leaks. Jal Sansthan officials said the repairs are on and supply was likely to be restored on Saturday.
According to the Jal Sansthan officials, the pipeline at Awas Vikas colony sprung a leak on Thursday evening due to careless digging by Green Gas Limited.
The leak at Jeevani Mandi took place due to the ongoing Gangajal project work.
On Friday afternoon, mayor Naveen Jain visited Jal Sansthan to check the ground situation. He directed officials to complete the repairs in a time-bound manner.
Meanwhile, residents complained that Jal Sansthan did not bother to send water tankers to the colonies despite stopping supply to carry out repairs of the pipeline.
R S Yadav, general manager, Jal Sansthan, said, “The repairing of leaks near the Jeevani Mandi Jal Sansthan and in Awas Vikas colony is taking place and is likely to be completed by Saturday evening.”
Jain said, “Officials have been directed to ensure that the repairs continue at night and are completed by 5pm on Saturday so that so that supply can be restored by evening”
As a result of the pipeline leaks, thousands of litres of water have been wasted. It is estimated that around 50 million litres is wasted a day. Instances of pipeline leaks have increased over the past two years.
