Max Mosley, one of the most powerful men in world sport, was under pressure to resign as boss of Formula One’s governing body last night after he was exposed enjoying a Nazi-style orgy with five prostitutes.
Jewish groups condemned the behaviour of Mosley, 67, whose father, Sir Oswald, was the leader of the British Union of Fascists and a friend of Adolf Hitler.
Mr Mosley was caught on video by the News of the World with five women in an underground “torture chamber” in Chelsea, where he spent several hours allegedly indulging in sado-masochistic sex.
The Oxford-educated former barrister, who is president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), reenacted a concentration camp scene in which he played the role of both guard and inmate.
Speaking in German and brandishing a leather whip, he beat the women after allowing himself to be subjected to a humiliating inspection for lice and an interrogation in chains.
Mr Mosley, a close confidant of Bernie Ecclestone, who holds the commercial rights to Formula One, paid £2,500 cash for the sex services, the Sunday newspaper claimed.
His antics stunned Jewish leaders and motorsport insiders. “This is sick and depraved,” Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said. “For anyone to be in such a position of influence and power beggars belief. I am absolutely appalled.”
Stephen Smith, director of the Holocaust Centre, said: “As Mr Mosley has condemned the racism in motor sport he should live up to the standards he sets. This is an insult to millions of victims, survivors and their families. He should apologise. He should resign from the sport.”
Sir Stirling Moss, the former world champion racing driver whose father was Jewish, said: “I don’t see how he can continue. I hope he can, frankly, because I think he’s very good at what he does. I suppose what goes on behind closed doors is his business but when a thing comes out like this . . . it’s an absolute shocker.”
Mr Mosley, whose two years in Germany as a young teenager gave him fluency in the language, has helped to turn Formula One into a multi-billion-pound business since he became FIA president in 1993. The FIA is a nonprofit association that represents the interests of motoring organisations and car users worldwide.
Mr Ecclestone said that he was shocked by the allegations but did not expect Mr Mosley’s position to be affected. “I’ve known him an awful long time. If somebody had told me this without the evidence I would have found it difficult to believe,” he said.
“Assuming it’s all true, what people do privately is up to them. I don’t honestly believe [it] affects the sport in any way. Knowing Max it might be all a bit of a joke. You know, it’s one of those things where he’s sort of taking the p***, rather than anything against Jewish people.”
Mr Mosley, who lives in Monaco, is understood to be pursuing legal action against the News of The World for breach of privacy. His spokesman said: “This is a matter between Mr Mosley and the newspaper in question and the FIA has no comment.”
Martin Brundle, the driver-turned-pundit who was recently the subject of a libel action brought by Mr Mosley, said: “It’s not appropriate behaviour for the head of any global body such as the FIA.”
Mr Mosley, who once harboured ambitions to be a parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party, is known for being eccentric and outspoken. Nicknamed “Mad Max” by some in motorsport, he once said he didn’t mind flak because he came from a family used to getting it all the time.
Hitler was present at the wedding of his father, Oswald, and mother, Diana, which took place in Joseph Goebbels’s drawing room. They were interned in Holloway and Brixton prisons for their Fascist connections.
Most recently, Mr Mosley stood up against racism in Formula One by giving warning of immediate sanctions if there was a repeat of the abuse against Lewis Hamilton, the only black driver on the circuit, in Barcelona during testing this season.

Dressing up as a Nazi as part of a sex fantasy and in the privacy of his own home, while a bit odd, is not an act of anti-semitism. Let the kinky old goat carry on with his job. He hasn't done any real harm - apart from to his credibility and image.
Craig robert, swansea, uk
The only reason anyone's bothered about this rather hilarious indulgence on Max's part is because they actually think it's condoning Nazism. ARE YOU JOKING? How can you take such a ridiculous act seriously? It has no consequence on his ability to head the FIA does it? Get off your high horses.
Stuart, St Asaph, UK
Mr. Mosleys behavior in this matter is beyond reprehensible. In the interest of Formula 1 and all that is decent in this world, he should scrape up what is left of his self-respect off the floor and resign immediatly. His 'holier than thou' attitude is just so wrong on so many levels.
Scott, Chicopee,Ma, USA
We do NOT need Naxi's in F1 !!!!!
Get out Max, you are NOT needed !!!!!!!!!!!!
Davina, St Albans, UK
Public or private life, it matters little. As long as Mr. Mosely did nothing illegal, it's none of anyone's business, and I mean ANYONE'S, period. If anyone or any organization demands that he quit, then they are basically telling an individual how to behave and no one has that right. It's not Mr. Mosely who should apologize. Rather, it is all those who are telling him to get out of racing. They should be ashamed, not him. Stick to your guns, Mr. Mosely and tell everyone to keep their noses away from where they don't belong.
Mark Edson, Toronto, Canada
It's not only that a man, or for that matter, anyone, has the right to do whatever he/she pleases in private life. No, it's the figure they represent in their public lives. Take a look at the former Governor of the State of New York in the States: he resigned in shame. Mad Max should resign, even when he's the one who turned F1 into the monster business it is now.
Carlos Martinez, Guadalajara, Mexico
Well done Max, you have managed to do the almost impossible, you've linked Formula 1 to Nazism and Hitler.
How do you you think the executives at Mercedes Benz feel about this brilliant piece of public relations? I bet they are just falling over themselves to invest more in their Formula 1 program. How do you think drivers like Heidfeld and Rosberg feel about this situation.
Resign, you are a liability to motor sports and an unsavoury distraction to Formula 1
Will Hartje, Phoenix, AZ
I simply agree with Karen Pollock and Stephen Smith.
“For anyone to be in such a position of influence and power beggars belief. I am absolutely appalled.â€

I simply agree with Karen Pollock and Stephen Smith.
Karma, AP,
In terms of modern ethics , one could say that Max now longer provides a good commercial image .
Lets look at the case fairly .
It is fair to say that a lot of people in todays multi cultural and sexual liberal society have a balanced view on the world of kink , bondage , sm etc , in much the same way that the gay population became accepted , rather than shunned . To use prostitutes for sex or other private activities is Mr Moseleys private life . But 5 at a time !! .
The NOTW video does not directly show Ladies in "Nazi uniforms" - It would appear that the latex style of military uniform is very commonplace at "fetish" events , and in my knowledge no German soldiers dressed in kinky latex .
HOWEVER one must consider the Immoral themeplay and stupid language used by Mr Moseley HIMSELF . It is clearly themed around events of WW2 , and although it does not verbally attack any religous culture , visually it attacks modern morality . Max must do the decent thing & resign .

Although an avid fan, I'll will not continue to watch it while this man is in charge. His arrogance and critisism over for others has finally come back to bite him.
Time to move over mine herre.

Lets face it Max has got to go. For years he has walked around like a "king" making idiotic comments about people. He is now nothing more than a liability to F1. Lets face it now he will be refered to as a 'John".

Does people REALLY believe that they were brought to Earth by a stork!? Why people are so scandalized with sex???? Clinton, Mosely, Madonna, etc, etc?
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooo! Get a grip, people? You were born of sex and one day, sooner or later (sooner is my guess) you will do it? Firstly alone, then in a couple, and maybe a threesome, foursome, .... several-some.
The man was playing his fantasy, I can't see what is wrong with that. Ah... by the way, he is 60 with five girls. Wow!!!! If he is to lost his job, that should be because he is incompetent, and not because he has a VERY active sex life.
Clinton was a very nice president... if he had a thing with his assistents, that is between him and Hillary. Think about Bush. All moral and the worst president that USA have ever had!

i have watched formula 1 for over 20 years and will keep watching , i will not be thinking about the sexuall activities of people behind the scenes,as the cars go round so why is it so important. people in todays world believe that they have the right too comment on everybody else ,i dont disagree with this up too a point ,but if we study every person who has sex, what they do and how they do it, no football or other sporting event would ever get played, with people being asked too resign,no political party would be able too function, so i think a little bit of common sence should be used people are so worried and want too be seen too be doing and saying the right thing that as soon as they hear of this sort of thing they have too stand up and be loud.
andy, dorset, uk
Bernie Ecclestone may say it's up to people what they do in private, but that is a totally irresponsible comment. Child abuse in private is probably OK then? - I think not. People who put themselves up as leaders in their sphere need to be aware of the responsibilities that come with position. We mustn't expect them to be perfect, but it's reeasonable to expect leaders to try to be moral in their own lives. His past connections are something hae had no control over, but he is accountable for his own attitudes and actions. His position should be in question regardless of how the information came into the public domain.
Leadership requires integrity - perhaps he's failed that test. With his past connections, he would have done well to work tirelessly to ensure that the inhumanity of his forebears could be reveresed in his own generation.
Colin Langlois, Guernsey, CI,
Seriously, who cares what the guy does? It doesnt affect my life so why should it affect yours? Everybody needs to get a grip!
As usual every tom, dick and harry have popped up from their back-street "religious" groups that nobody gives a damn about to get their tuppence worth in.Why are the Jewish leaders up in arms? It wasnt as if he was dressed as a nazi brandishing swastikas, he was only talking in German, but as usual the papers have sensationalised the story with the headline "nazi style orgy" Just because his parents were nazi associates does not make him one! Lets do the world a favour and ban all religion before it starts another war.

Amina Khan - I assume from your name you are a muslim, so how on earth can you be so glib with your view that "at the end of the day, it was a sexual fantasy and frankly I don't need to hear about it. Jewish groups need to back off". If Mosley had dressed as mohammed and insulted the koran, would muslim groups "back off" and be saying the same thing as you? No way! You could expect suicide bombings at racetracks and British aeroplanes to be blown out of the sky!
Candice Lovelace, Oxford, England
I watch Formula 1 with my children and I am now in a position where I am having to explain Mosleys sexual behaviour to them because this scandal is so intrinsically linked to the sport. His role is not that of someone with a normal daily job. He is the senior captian of a world-wide multi-million pound sport that is piped into our homes. I don't think he should continue. How can car manufactures and advertisers work in an environment where the figurehead cannot seem to appreciate that his deviant behaviour is inappropriate, a situation made worse, condisering his parentage.

I don't recall our young Prince being asked to resign his royal status after making a similar error in regard to playing a Nazi?
Does anyone remember Freddie Starr?
Are we suggesting he is unfit for being a fascist or immitating one? If he truly believes in Fascism and persicution of the Jewish people then sure he should resign, but not for his own private entertainment, and it should have been private after all..
stokesy, london,
This has the whiff of a set-up, but I don't consider it newsworthy, that a rich and famous man, dresses up, and entertains five brass nails. Nothing new there I suspect !
I don't know Mosley, but from what I know of him, I probably would not like him. It amazes me that the rich and famous can so frequently exercise such appalling judgement, but whilst I have little sympathy for him in this situation, I must ask, what law has he broken, apart from offending those who revel in an opportunity to be offended?
HUgh Barber, Leeds, UK
I think a lot of people are missing the point here as far as i can see. Sure the guy should be able to do whatever he wants in private, but if the F1 whoever major organistion he represents doesn't want him running there show in public i can certainly understand that. The point is wherther they want him and he has to accept the consequences if they don't. And i'm pretty sure they won't want him after this.

how come the odious SIR oswald moseley was given a knighthood? how dare he be called 'sir' with his devotion to another odious man called hitler. it should be stripped from his name.
well done max-following in fathers footsteps!

This is not about SEX, not about NAZI, this is about politics only. For all those who have posted here about the high moral standard Max Mosley has violated, please spend some time thinking why you are offended so much by Max's sexual role-play adventure. What are your fantasies ? Or are you just mad that you have given up on them a long time ago ? Or do you belong to a social group who's outlawed fantasies, so all you are left with is your own guilt and the moral judegment of others ?
Most questionable in a a moral view is the way Max Mosley was set up with this as nothing else than a setup could have produced this result.
Of course he will have to step down now. But for those having made him go to place somebody else, the laws of bad karma will apply. F1 would be nowhere close to where it is without Max Mosley and it's not always by making friends only that you get things done. But it's never while things are being done that they kill them, it's after the job is done, they w

Effectively no one has nothing to do you someone else's private life, but when you have such a public exposed responsabilities you have to set an exemple, and the Nazi "fantasy" isn't cleary a good one.
The FIA president can't be isolated as Mosley will be after this affair. No King, Republic President or Xeque will be willing to be seen or photographed/filmed next to MM, so it's time to go.
Paulo Felix, Lisbon , Portugal
Stirling Moss, contrary to the lead article, was never a World Champion. With a mistake like that, the rest of the article's validity and content are thrown into doubt.
As for Max Mosley, he's been running motor racing in general, and F1 in particular, as his own little fiefdom for years. People who have such far-reaching power, and receive so little over-sight, often think they're above the norms shared by others.
It's time for Max to move along and for motor sport to bring in people who offer a great deal more transparency to the machinations that have been in the shadows for so many years.
Doug Blackman, Colorado Springs, Colorado
The five 5's may be his own business....but the Nazi concentration camp theater is a real issue.....
it simply brings into questions many issues related to his treatment of McLaren, Hamilton and even US involvement in FIA/F1.
So much power and decision making in one person is never good; let alone one so controversial and potentially taken by 3rd parties to be biased.

He must go now. End of story. ....Ron...there is justice after all and this appalling man is now exposed for what he really is. Disgraceful.
N Webster, Ipswich, Suffolk
Max should have gone years ago.
He has for many years favoured Ferrari against other teams, notably Mclaren, presumably out of jealousy over the achievements of other people such as Ron Dennis.
He has run F1 not as a sport but as an exercise in legal power.
If this episode shows him in his true colours and gets rid of him then so be it. We might then have a chance of getting our sport back.
Oh and thank you News of the World for doing something really useful. I never thought I'd find myself saying that.
Tony, Frodsham, UK
Personally I couldn't care less what he actually did with the women EXCEPT
1. What he did was illegal according to the laws of the country that the offence occurred in.
2. Like it or not, because of this it brings the sport into disrepute. This is a man that has always claimed to act at he highest levels and has always been quick to criticise the actions of others in the sport.
Live by the sword............
D. Pearce, Sheffield, UK
Of course this fool should go, on top of his blatant manipulation of the FIA to exclude McLaren last year, this has to be the last straw. A senior executive has to be seen to be without reproach and neutral to all sides of the sport.
Vic Rollo, Bristol,
Oh for heaven's sake, his kink has nothing to do with his actual political views, and wouldn't offend anyone if they didn't poke their noses in where they don't belong.

what happens in the bedroom should stay there....Max Mosely was not an elected government officicial bequeathed with the "public trust." Officials in public office have higher standards thrust upon them due to obvious reasons. As the head of a non-profit, commercial enterprise, his private business should remain his business. Jewish groups should focus on preventing other holocausts around the world -- and there are many -- rather than use personal depraved sexual behaviour as examples of anti-semitism. If there was no Nazi element to this then would anyone care? At the end of the day, it was a sexual fantasy and frankly I don't need to hear about it. The press needs to back off; Jewish groups need to back off; and let those who are part of Mosley's empire (the 'Forumula One folks) deal with him using their own criteria. He has after all affected them the most.

Moseley should go - more proof of his not being fit for this position . Ferrari won't be happy if it happens though - they lose their apologist & best friend.
Time for a new FIA boss who will treat everyone equally.

Pity Steve Rider and Mark Blundell didn't have a chance to comment on proceedings and of course interview Anthony Hamilton about what Lewis would have done in that situation
Jet Jaxon, hastings,
Sexual proclivities are never the business of anyone you chose not to share them with. Many people engage in fantasies that are merely fantasies and not indicative of who they are in the real world. People play with abduction and control fantasies all the time, it does not mean they are rapists, but rather people who examine their feelings in a sexual environment and role play without serious consequence or victims.
There is a world of difference between fantasy role play and actually doing something of this nature and people would do well to remember that and perhaps factor in the fact that most of the critics out there probably have some questionable fantasies they have never shared themselves.
What I find sick is that groups out there who preach tolerance and education of things like the holocaust are using this to condemn Max as opposed to lending him a modicum of the tolerance they supposedly stand for. Hipocracy is ugly no matter who it comes from.

People who acquire the services of prostitutes are arrested if caught in the U.S. I myself see the profession as a harmless vice. But time will tell if the wealthy and affluent are treated the same way as they are in the U.S. Above the law. Unlawful actions with no consequence for the powerful. And jail time for the average Joe. I guess things are the same everywhere when it comes to situations like this one. In retrospect this guy should be able to dress up like Martha Stewart and run around his house like a fool if he wants to as long as it's done behind closed doors. The media runs our world my friends.
Felix, Ocean City, U.S.A. New Jersey
I am mildly amused that this aristo has been caught out. Fancy him playing with the lower classes. Ron Dennis and Jacky Stewart can be excused if they feel a sense of schadenfreude.
It is as well to remember not to insult on your way up because on the way down the pain will be greater.

Hey Max -- Who's the 'figure of fun in the paddock' now?
brian wood, san diego, california
To my mind the N of the World is way out of line here. They use disgraceful tactics to make public what consenting and willing adults do in private to sensationalise and sell their idiotic rag. Then have the affront to purport their holier than thou attitude.
I have not bought a News of the World for many years due to their skulking and sneaky reporting and yet are nothing more than a bunch of hypocrits.
Surely there is plenty of credible news about without. The thing is that this paper knows that it is sex that sells and it is so morally vaporous that it has ruined many peoples lives who have done nothing wrong except to indulge in private fun.

Ask Tomas Sheckter what he thinks should be done.
If this doesn't fall under "bringing the sport into disrepute", what does?

Tyler, of course it's different. In this instance here we are talking about a group of CONSENTING ADULTS that were supposedly behind closed doors. What you are describing is an act upon an unknowing victim who is also a minor. The only way children are exposed in this instance here is to read the news.
dee, oklahoma city, OK
This sure gives a new meaning to Fantasy Formula 1 lol
dee, oklahoma city, OK
I am from Canada, so I can't be sure... but isn't it illegal to hire prostiutues in England? The fact that Mr. Mosley had consenting sex with 5 women isn't an issue, but paying 5 prostitutes for sex might be. Personally, I think that he should step down for that reason only. It is a shame because of the stellar work he has done for the sport and the direction he is taking it for the betterment of motoring in general ie overlapping technology for street cars etc., plus the tireless commitment to increasing safety in F1 he brings. Looks like Jean Todt might have a new job after all.
F, Plymouth, England
If Max has any of his parents political leanings, he certainly has never expressed it through his work. He is far more intelligent than his parents, though obviously not cautious enough when it comes to vetting the hired help! I have at times both admired Max and been angry at him, but whatever anyone says, he is very very good at that job, and you should respect him for that. At 67 i doubt that he will be able to stand the ribbing that he will get from the pit lane, and he will stand down. He's a petrol head, not a nazi, and we should remember that.
Marshall, London, UK
The hypocrisy I see here is astonishing.
The 'leave him have his fantasies' rebuttal smacks of polarization. Would all you Enlightened folk care to comment about somebody that has pictures of a six year old boy some swine took at the local park? After all, the little boy wasn't harmed when they took the pictures, wasn't he?
Well. I suppose now you'll say That's Different.
As I'm sure, the FIA would act if either Schumacher or Heidfeld was doing this instead of Mosely.
Tyler Durden, Buffalo, NY , USA
Well, if George Bush was burning crosses outdoors, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be private, therefore he probably wouldn't be voted into office in the first place. Also, last time I checked, Max wasn't in charge of a country, no matter how important the FIA thinks they are.
That said, I do realize that the whole nazi subject is touchy. But he intended for it to remain private. It's not like he posted it on youtube for the world to see. If the story hadn't been leaked to the public, no one would have ever known. Next week he still would have been the same person we thought he was last week. Let's look at it for what it is... an old man getting his jollies with consenting adults. If everyone in the room was ok with it, then who does it really hurt? He wasn't setting out to blatantly deface or insult anyone. It was a sex act, he's in charge of sports, not a government official. But if you want to bring American presidents into it, you should have picked Bill Clinton hehehe.
dee, oklahoma city, OK
I am the same opinion as Mr. Wright from Cheshire. I bet Ron Dennis is loving this. I think that Mr. Mosley has to quit the FIA and let Jean Todt to be the new president of the FIA.

Where are the respectable motor clubs on this? AA in Britian, ADAC in Germany, the AAA in America? They are the members of the FIA . Due to their well-regarded position, they need to speak out and renounce Mosely. Their milllions of members should express outrage if these motor clubs do not.
Tony Johnson, Birmingham, UK
I have a question to some lunatic readers here, who think what this man does in private is up to him and no one has the right to judge him.
What would you say, when US-President George Bush wear a KKK Uniform and burn a huge cross in his texan home ranch.
Would you then say: Oh, that's okay, this is his own private business???
George, Frankfurt, Germany
What do you expect from a man, who when asked as a schoolboy his father's occupation, replied, "Faschistenführer!"???

How very, very funny!
Wasn't I reading, in this very newspaper a few weeks ago, about those stupid puritan Americans forcing the Governor of the State of New York out of office for sexual shenanigans?
And how those very, very sophisticated Europeans wouldn't even blink at such things....
Can you spell hypocrite?
Alain Gadbois, Montreal, Canada
First of all, comparing this to the Spanish-Hamilton-racist deal is comparing apples and oranges. The people who did that intended it to be public and insulting to a driver. It was Max's professional responsibility to the drivers to stand up against it.
What Max did here was intended to be private, with consenting adults and the actions in private hurt no one(more than they wanted it to). The people that exposed this are more appaling than what Max did. The media that first uncovered this story had to know that it could cause emotional pain, anger and disappointment, not only to Max, but to his family, friends, the sport, fans, and people that don't even care about F1.
What is really worse here, a 67 year old man getting freaky with consenting adults behind what he thought was closed doors just to get his jollies, or the media version of Big Brother exposing it for the almighty dollar?
dee, oklahoma city, OK
Of course "Slapsie Maxie" must resign. All drivers are aware of the "five-second" rule. But Max disobeyed the five-word rule: Thou Shalt Not Get Caught.
Tony, Auckland, New Zealand
Talk about racism, being German with such a past as his,
I think he is a more likely target, than anyone else. This attack is from people that always sees him as a target waiting to be struck.
He was with consenting adults, he didn't kidnap the prostitutes, I don't think he surprised them with the acts. Slap him with soliciting, that's news worthy enough.
He paid well for privacy with a few women, do you honestly know what your Uncle, Aunt, Grandmother, Dad or other people does behind closed door? Why kick down the doors to reveal Max's behaviour. It is crystal clear, his enemies are gung-ho for blood. It is strange how far hate can go, no decendants is exonerated, nor can they be embraced honestly into a circle of innnocent until proven guilty.
Why does he have to defend, protect and conceal his very private and personal life that doesn't hurt humanity or society from, not only News' hunters and enemies, but from envious people too? Mind your own business.
Mick Makeei, Tarpon Springs, USA/ Florida
I was convinced that there was something going on with this guy from the moment I heard him saying that "Hamilton could have a negative effect on F1," I for one hope that he resigns now we know that he is quite a sick minded individual.
Michael, London, United Kingdom
The mind boggles...
I reckon theres enough here for good ol Tom Sharpe to scribble out a tome... Herr Moseley has a certain ring about it...
Just goes to show that you never know what goes on behind closed doors ( & in dungeons either!).
John, Bicester, UK
I'm sorry, but what does this man's sexual activity have to do with Formular 1. I could understand if he had been exposed as a paedophile or date rapists but surely what goes on between consenting adults is nobody elses business.
This seems like a cowardly way to get rid of him. C'mon now boys play fair, smear campaigns will have a negative effect on the whole sport. If Mr Moseley is not doing his job properly then take him to task, otherwise leave the guy alone!
Kelly Thompson, London, UK
"Prostitution is Illegal and paying for sex is illegal (to say nothing about any moral concerns). How can we possibly condone his actions and accept him as head of the FIA ???
ANDY, WORTHING, UK"
Actually it's not, soliciting is illegal not prostitution, but anyway it is clear that someone who privately mocks something as serious as death camps should not hold a position as head of the FIA.
Mr Plumbstone, London,
Eventhough many of German behaviours are disliked or at least criticized by Britons it's a kind of relief to see that some of our British neighbours are fond of German manners.
I wonder myself who has passed the information of Max's particular date and his sexual proclivities.

The fact that the majority of posters say that whatever anyone does in private is his own affair, and that (by implication) it has no impact on his public life, makes me despair. Can you not see that the private man and the public man are one and the same? The private man is not some kind of ethereal being, he is the same perso who acts publicly as a husbdand and as a father, or as an employer or as a worker. Have you people no concept of morality? Either a man lives a virtous life, and is deemed to be trustworthy, honest and upright, or he does not, and is not. Do you not see that there is a fundamental connection?
Benedict Carter, Mosocw, Russia
I wonder if this brings Ron Dennis any pleasure?
Phil, Singapore,
I don't see what his private life, conducted out of the sight of the public, has to do with his ability to do his job. Whether it was offensive or not, unless it took place in public it really isn't up to any of the prurient readers of the News of the World - hardly a shining example of accuracy or taste - or readers of the Times to comment.

After 279 years of Mosley and Ecclestone in FIA and F1, perhaps it is high time to dust off some of the fungus and mold...
FIA and F1 are supposed to be international bodies and international sports.... and there is no other example in any other sport or body in the world where chummies hold on to power in this way and for so long......
Tetsuya, Tokyo, Japan
I have no interest whatsoever in F1but, is there a problem here?
It is this news-of-the-world this so-called newspaper that you have to despise for intruding into peoples private lives and what the guy does in his private life is his own affair.
W Dunseith, Contre, France
A storm in a teacup. OK, this guy has kinky fantasies - do they affect how he does his job? Must be more embarrassing for his family - if he has a wife it would be interesting if the NotW could get some pictures of how he explains these antics to her! What people do behind closed doors is up to them. I'm sure the girls were all consenting adults.
Ian Burgess, Bristol,
Never mind what he gets up to in his bunker. He should have been sacked for what he said about Jackie Stewart.
Henry, Exeter,
This is the stuff of legend. Ignore the bitter snipers who purport to exhibit higher moral standards. Keep it up, Mr Mosely!
Paul Knowles, Walsall, UK
who cares what he gets up to in his spare time? I dont, he's been excellent for motorsport on the whole not just F1, even if he is as mad as a hatter.
I am quite sure there are plenty of people who read this paper who get up to far worse in order to get their rocks off, how would they feel if their tawdry secrets where exposed by the Sunday rags?
Lots of hypocrites making a big noise about nothing and i'm sure at the root of it will be someone with an agenda.
Only in England could someone who is exceptionally good at something they do be asked to resign because of their sexual pecadilloes.
Carry on Max!
iain, York,
"......to suggest that someone should step down from a position as a F1 chief because of such behaviour is repellent"
In any occupation outside of the public eye Joseph I'd agree, however Max is, like it or not, a public figure within motor sport and as such should be considered an ambassador. He preaches moral standards when handing out punishments and I personally think that someone in this position should practise what he preaches.
There have been so many cases in recent years of public personalities being punished for arguably less perverse 'offences' (Angus Deyton, Frank Boff, various premiership footballers .... the list is both very long and very sad) that to suggest that this man should remain 'untouchable' is to my mind truly repellent.
If he were chairman or CEO of a private company then I would certainly argue that his business is his own, but since he is an immensely powerful public figure I certainly don't think that this applies.
He should go
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
I think this is hilarious, what a scenario! I put it down to his 'privileged' upbringing, and public school/Oxford education.
Patricia, Ipswich, England
Now this is a real gobsmacker! If this is all true, the man is certifiably insane. He should not only step down immediately, he should also check in to the nearest lunatic asylum!! What he reportedly did is sick, perverted, and wholly despicable!
Brian Sutherland, Elliston, Virginia, USA
I'm with Andy (Worthing) on this one. Nobody will be able to deal with Mosely without falling about laughing and that fact alone means he has to go.
In answer to the libertarians who have said its OK for adults to do whatever they want behind closed doors, I'd say this.
Just imagine yourself in Mosely's place in that "dungeon".
Now if you don't feel disgusted and full of revulsion then I do think there's something not quite right with you. And I hope you aren't on my local council :)
Richard, Southport,
There is nothing in the story to link what he did with nazism. He apparently counted in German during his "ordeal", so what? Are we really saying that all germans are Nazis. Max should be left alone to apologise to his family.
Tom Leeburn, London, Great Britain
£2,500 for five hookers? That was a bargain compared to Spitzer! He shouldn't have to stand down for what he does in the privacy of his own bedroom, at least HE used his own money.
Now just imagine if the journalists started writing about YOU having sex with someone and HOW you have sex with them, I bet you wouldn't like it very much. Journalists spent years trying to give homosexuals the right to privacy in their own home, now they're showing themselves up as hypocrites!
Stephen, Essex, England
I think that s insane but i d to the same at 67....
Vincenzo, geneva, ch
Vee haf ways of making you quit, Herr Mosley...und some of zem are not pleasant...
J. Emerick, Dundee, OR, USA
Sweet tap dancing christ Stuart....what episode of Jeeves and Wooster have you been watching......sadly I must have missed that one ;-)
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
If one feel's that Mr. Mosley should be sacked for something substantial that he has done - fine. But to use private consensual sexual behaviour as an back door excuse is foolhardy. Morality is indeed important but it is a matter between one and God and no doubt one’s Spouse, not the public at large.
EAG, Maritimes, Canada
How some people get their jollies! Absolutely flabbergasting stuff. But given the far-right antecedents in the family, probably not that surprising. And even if it was all going on "behind closed doors", Mr Mosley's position would seem to be untenable. The man's credibility has been flushed down the toilet, to say the least.
(And i wonder what the libel action against Martin Brundle was all about.)
peter koeb, aljezur, portugal
Honestly I expected more of him. I find the whole thing just so tacky, no glamour. Wearing Nazi uniforms....honestly it sounds like a bad script in a bad film. Depravity is losing its bad name with fellows like this.
M. Ferrer, VIGO,
How can Bernie stand up for him?! His behaviour was offensive and inexcusable, not 'a bit of a joke'. I for one did not see the funny side and I doubt many people did.
He must stand down. The FIA cannot keep him and their credibility
Amy, Peterborough,
There was a young man from Clyde
Who fell down a sewer and died
The next day his brother
Fell down another
And now they're INTERRED side by side
Like Diana and Oswald perhaps?
Gerry Lewis, Wallingford, England
Have I missed something here? Has Mosley done something illegal? And whatever he got up to, it was behind closed doors - unlike the offensive public behaviour during "Gay Pride" marches (What's there to be proud of?).
Also, why are Jewish groups sticking their noses in? What has it to do with them?
BTW: "They were interred in Holloway and Brixton prisons for their Fascist connections."
"Interred"? ...Were they executed first?
Brian Clacey, Croydon, UK
the BBC is censoring the story.
a bit nazi?
Alex, kiev,
If ever there was a case of privacy violated. Notice how nothing bothers Bernie. It's all nothing, no problems, just pay your money money money at Bernie's.
gerald, Eastchester, ny
Wow. He condemns racism in F1 and then we find out this is how he gets his jollies? You couldn't make this stuff up.
Scott, Philadelphia, US
So what, it's his business.
John, Lincoln,
Oh dear Max! I am sorry. You forgot the 11th commandment, "Thou shalt not get caught"
Sorry mate you're toast now!
Tim, Dundee, Scotland
What can we say? A person of his status should pay attention to what he is doing for any exposure of what happens 'in the closet' is going to be a costly mistake. But he is entitled to privacy, but ,unfortunately, privacy is an illusive dream in cases involving people in high office or are public figures.
Fred Tan, Kajang, Selangor,, Malaysia.
So what?
Vincent Coles, Forfar,
My Dad said to me many years ago, "Just make sure you don't get caught with your trousers down."
Lionel Gardner, Elsham,
From what I've read over the years - News of The World, et al - it seems that sado-masochistic sexual experiences and bondage humiliation are mandatory parts of some barristers' extra-mural activities. Perhaps the legal curriculum needs to be brought up to date ?
I couldn't go in for legal training myself - I didn't have the Latin. In all probability I'd have failed the oral examination as well. Boy, what have I missed, eh ?
Dr. Jimmy, Nottingham, England
If they bring back Allo Allo, Mr Mosley could play the role of Herr Flick the Gestapo Agent.
Actually he should resign sooner rather than later, zere's no vay he vill leev zis von down.
Dj, London,
Altough I have no issue with HoloCaust and Nazi connection. I just want him to quit so that this sport has a good future. He has ruined the sport with his ugly decisions. If this becomes a reason for his quiting than that will be fine too.
Shahrukh, Lahore, Pakistan
Finally,
Someone in power that's just like the rest of us.
Keep up the good work.
Keith, Wilmslow, Cheshire
If he does retire, I dare say the staff will have a whip-round.
john, norwich,
He should be fined £50,000,000 and relegated to a shed at the start of the pit lane.
Andrew Brooke, Lewes, East Sussex
Good on yer.I wish I had £2500 to spend on sex.
I hope he made a film of it.It would be a best seller.
and by the way its no ones business but his.
davyc, Chi, UK
It all sounds rather like an escapade from a Jeeves and Wooster novel. Ah! Some things never change.
Stuart, Glasgow,
Isnt it interesting how the 'sporty' types in general so quickly call to boycott events in Moscow, Beijing, Zimbabwe etc but were quite happy to go to Berlin (Nazi salutes and all) and find any reason to 'keep politics out of sport' during the apartheid era .(Yes there were many exceptions, but then there was massive political pressure if you wanted to keep your job. And in the Berlin Olympics case were there many Gentile exceptions?)
I just wonder. Are right wingers drawn to sports admin just like lefties are drawn to social work?
E Skelton, cardiff, wales
Save as must be necessary for the enforcement of reasonable criminal laws, such as the prohibitions on rape or on sexual congress with children, the State has no place in the bedroom, or, for that matter, the dungeon. Neither should the News of the World. The man's sexual predilections are his own business. Sex in a Nazi costume is no more Nazism than sex in a school uniform is paedophilia.
Furthermore, to suggest that someone should step down from a position as a F1 chief because of such behaviour is repellent: such deeds are utterly irrelevant – surely competence and the ability to do his job must be the determining factors in his keeping or losing it.
Joseph, Dublin, Republic of Ireland
he has to go not just because of the insult to Jews ,nor his obligation as FIA Pres: to be an example
but because how can anyone deal with him without falling about laughing?
F1 has too much to get on without a sad old mans fetishes in the way - resign MAX and have a "spanking" retirement
andrew meikle, london,
Finally, something to liven up the corporate, money-grabbing dreariness that is Formula 1. I have no interest in knowing what motivates Lewis Hamilton or any of the other talented but characterless figures in the game but, oh boy would I like to know what makes old Mad Max tick!!!! Some genuine, unsanitised, free spirited, complex, filthy perversion. Yippee!!
Esther, London,
I think Max said Jackie was a /certifiable/ halfwit...
I don't like Max, I think he has too many personal axes to grind to be head of the FIA (never liked Dennis, even when they both ran F1 teams, apparently), but what a guy does to get his jollies is his business, and no-one else's. I wouldn't like stories of me and lime jelly to hit the press.. oh bother........
Eddie, Edinburgh, Scotland
Tom Bozzy says "what goes around comes around".
Yes. that's how F1 works. It's called lapping
Chris Brock, London,
IF Frank Boff (remember him) can have his career ended due to the use of 'personal services' then I see no chance for Max.
Frank Boff was just a sports presenter with no 'power' or influence within any sport. Max by comparison is one of the most powerful and influential men in sport, do we REALLY want to accept his .....life-style choice ?. Bearing in mind that by so doing we are basically agreeing that it is acceptable.
Nazi / German / Jewish aspects aside, how can this be viewed as anything other than seriously 'bringing the sport into disrepute’ ?. Prostitution is Illegal and paying for sex is illegal (to say nothing about any moral concerns). How can we possibly condone his actions and accept him as head of the FIA ???
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke...
Greg, Sheffield,
"....providing it hurts no-one else"
Geoff, think you should re-read the article ;-)
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
This is the same person who deprived Lewis Hamilton of an assured Title and also fined Mclaren the guy is a hypocrite and he should be stripped of his presidency. F1 is seeing a new generation and people like him just don't fit in any more
Phil, ST ALBANS, UK
Sorry for my vast amount of posts on this.....but I'm utterly flabergasted by this story. Its one of the most amazing, ironic and terribly funny things that I've ever read.
I'm not a Max fan (never was) and this is just too good to be true - even if he survives this with his career intact the embarresment will be just ..... unimaginable. Can't WAIT until his next FIA interview (and Jackie Stewart ...... Have a DAMN good laugh, you more than anyone deserve to derive pleasure from Max's 'unfortunate' headline story ;-) )
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
Normally I would agree that his private sexual life is his own affair. However this is a man who has used the weight of his public office to belittle and humiliate dissenters for the major part of his career.
Hubris begets Nemesis.
And Nemesis is a Hard Mistress, Max.
Michael Deman, Cairo,
And wasn't it nice of the News of the World to help us guard our morals by giving a blow by blow description of the events!
Esther, London,
Why does a Jewish group get a say or the right to be insulted ? Because he spoke German ? because of his fathers political views ?
All seems to me like someone has a grudge and will take any chance for some revenge perhaps ?
Gavin, London, UK
am appalled and disgusted by the indulgence in sexual perversions by a leading figure in sport but also by almost open approval by readers and commentators on this column. In a civilized world any human being has the obligation to behave privately and publicly at the same decent level. No excuses under the privacy rhetoric. In any human being there is only one person in all circumstances. Privacy is only related to physical needs, health, family, hence to sound human needs not perversions. Actually, the comments say quite a lot on the permissiveness, moral and ethical standards of Anglo-Saxon individuals.
Carlo di Giorgio, Venice, Italy
The guy was caught having wierd sex, thats all, why should he apologise to anyone for what turns him on?
Larry, Stockholm, Sweden
Its about time Mosley went any way he hasn't done motorsport any good, and this might be the kick he needs to get him out the door.........
Scott , Karlsruhe Germany ,
When are supposedly responsible newspapers like The Times going to find the courage to start ignoring the prurient details of people's private lives published by the hypocrites in the gutter press, so that this country can finally emerge into the 21st century rather than remaining firmly entrenched in the 19th?
This kind of reporting should be illegal.
Andrew, Brighton,
I really don't know what's wrong with people here.
1) He's committed a crime - allegedly- in paying for sex (is this where Mclaren's 100 mill has gone?)
2) This is anti-Jewish. If dressing people up as concentration camp victims and checking for lice isn't then what is?
This is inexcusable. If the head of the FA or government did this they wouldn't survive. No-one will want to be associated with F1 with this peverse creature in charge.
Philip Newbold, Surrey,
I despise this man. I don't care about his depraved sex antics. That is a matter for him. But he has never done enough to distance himself from his father to satisfy me. Suffice to say that his father has been an inconvenience to him rather than a source of disgrace and disgust. He should be removed from the FIA. There is no place for people like this in public positions. He should not have been there in the first place. He should carry the burden of his father's legacy wherever he goes for as long as he shares the same name.
Ben, London,
Sorry, but Nazi sex fantasies aren't becoming to the president of the FIA. They're pretty repugnant on their own, but in the context of a man who once campaigned to Keep Britain White, whose mother I believe was a holocaust denier and whose father tried to install a fascist dictatorship in the country... plus his aunts(?), the Mitford sisters, and their infatuation with Hitler... this man needs to step down immediately, it shouldn't even require a push from the WMSC, he should just go.
Jonah, UK,
To correct one or two posters here; paying for sex isn't illegal in the UK. Soliciting is - big difference.
And to echo another poster - who here would be entirely happy for every element of their private, sexual, financial and moral life to be scrutinised by the gutter press? I'll admit Mosely is a little further off the beaten track (pun intended) than most of us might venture, but that's his business. I see no reason it should affect his ability to do his job.
Julian, Warwick, UK
Max- I told you ALWAYS wear a mask.
Tom Taylor-Duxbury, Ludlow, UK
The real issue here is what kind of world do we live in if some smutty newspapers find it normal to pay considerable amounts of money to corrupt people to come out with that kind of garbage. I hope Mr Mosley sues the News of the World and the repulsive individual who betrayed him and manages to bankrupt both. Also I have seen the photos published and nothing at all shows that the " scenes" were in any way connected to concentration camps or that there was any kind of "jewish" aspect to it..again a case of a newspaper egging the pudding to make it more scandalous than it is , evil behaviour that must be stopped if we want to continue living in a "free" society...
philippe marcq, sherston, wilts
Yes, what goes on behind closed doors should stay private. But as has already been pointed out; paying for sex in this country is illegal. He has broken the law.
I'm sure if a driver, or a certain Team Principal of a certain British team, were to be caught in such a position Max would be the first to call for their resignation.
Lisa Butler, Hertford,
MAx should have gone long ago, and this will hopefully put the tin lid on it - the sick little pervert. The apple didn't fall far from the tree with him did it !!!
MAX TO GO, NOW !!
ANDY, WORTHING, UK
This story only seems to be appearing in the Times and the News of the World. Is that because they are both News International titles?
Has anyone seen this story on other news services, or has Mosely managed to 'gag' them all?
Arundel, South Coast, UK
Only £2500, that seems very cheap. The governor of New York was paying a lot more than that.
David Leslie, Perth, Scotland
This story is hilarious! I love the way it makes people react "The man is disgusting he should step down, his position is untenable!" Blah blah blah blah blah. Whatever. The guy deserves some credit, 5 hours, I’d be wrecked. Plus, not that I was his biggest fan, but he has done a lot for F1. As long as he doesn’t start making the grid girls dress up in SS uniforms he’s alright by me.
Daniel J, Belfasy, NI
Have'nt seen the story or any pictures, but isn't it just possible that because he is a Mosley, the NoW has stretched and strained to turn it into a Jewish holocaust story?
Isn't it just possible that the sadomasochistic behaviour was just that, and not an attempt to "recreate" a concentration camp scene?
Isn't it just possible that the fact he paid for sex with 5 prostitutes is no-one els'e business?
What people pay for and do in private, providing it hurts no-one else, is their business. Rolling out holocaust spokespersons, and others with a vested interest, is an attempt to make it into something that it might not have been for all I (and everyone else) knows.
I don't know the guy, and refuse to judge him. But it's the NoW for god's sake, don't let them win.
Geoff Brough, Binfirld, UK
This is a clear case of bringing the sport into disrepute and he should be sacked.
I would wager that all those commenting that he is 'entitled to a private life' would be more critical of the events if they had involved a Premiership footballer.
Alex Ritchie, Salisbury, uK
what got goes around comes around.mad max thinks he could do whatever wants.well maxy boy, lets hope you get your just deserves.
tom bozzy, melbourne,
dont worry ron, this is worth more than a 100million
tom bozzy, melbourne,
It's mint imperial to me if Mr Mosley wants to hang out in dungeons, swing from chandliers or turn up for work dressed as a Dennis the Menace, what the hell do the private lives of other people have to do with the rest of us? He sounds quite a laugh and far more interesting than the self-righteous rabble who run that so-called 'family' newspaper, 'the News of the Screws'.
Marie-F Cameron, Reigate, Surrey
About time this country had privacy laws as the French do, who we are apparently trying to emulate (see today's article in the Telegraph). News of the World no doubt justify this intrusion into someone's private life as 'the publi cright to know'. You do not have to condone what was filmed to realise that this is not journalism, just an organisation acting as a 'peeping tom'. Had an individual been caught spying on this scene they would have been arrested.
If justice still exists in this country Mr Mosely will no doubt win his legal case.
cwillnic, cardiff,
He is the representative of an international organisation. His position is untenable. If he had any honour he would resign.
Les, Lavendon,
Anglo-saxon sleaze has something very disturbing about it... then again, give me £2,500 to kick the crap out of a neo-nazi and I might happily oblige :-)
French bourgeoisie and political sex sleaze maybe rampant but it seems somewhat more wholesome...
Isabelle, Maisons-Laffitte, France
So, this guy was the one making a lot of noise about Spaniards dressing/painted in black and at the same time he was dressing like a Nazi to have sex ? Mrs. Mosley please step down.
JoseBelgica, Brussels, Belgium
So the FIA, which controls one of the most money making sports in the world, is a non profit making organisation and its president lives in that well known philanthropic paradise known as Monaco!
peter fieldman, paris , france
I can't believe Mosley's parents were "interred" in Brixton and Holloway, as your article says. Interned possibly, but not interred - that really would be buring the story.
crasher, London,
Clearly, Max Mosely will not survive this scandal and, quite frankly, he should not be allowed to. It is not in the interests of the car manufacturers involved in Formula One to be associated with this kind of depravity. It can, thus, only be a matter of time before Mosely is, at last, deposed from his position at the FIA and sent into F1 exile. Frankly, though, if this is how the man likes to spend his spare time, then good riddance to him!
Bertie Kaye, London,
He has to go. Paying for sex is actually a crime in the UK. Yet again Mad Max is the story. And this is a gross insult to Jews.
Philip Newbold, Surrey,
I look at this two ways :-
1. Does this affect his credability, and if other groups had know about this, has it effected his judgment on what rules he dishes out. How can people look him in the eye and take him seriously, he will be like a Headmaster who was caught with a school cleaner, all his authority has gone out of the window.
2. It really is nothing to do with anyone what he gets up to behind close dooors with consenting adults, but it has come into the public domain and therefore goes to point 1.
Sorrry Max, I do not dislike or like you but it does answer alot of questions when it comes to you looking after the prancing horses........do you have anymore skeletons???????????
Oh and another point....................what about the effect this will have on his family life, he has gone from being a very influential man, to having nothing in 48 hours...........................................I feel sorry for him as i am sure no-o0ne is perfect.
He who is without sin..........
Guy Smithurst, Huddersfiled, West Yorkshire
Whilst I think he was the greatest ever I must point out that Stirling Moss, largeley due to misuse of rules ,was never a world racing Champion. As you ar inaccurate in that respect perhaps also in the Moss parentage? It is certainly a gap in my knowledge that Moss was part Jewish. Not that it matters one iota. He was simply the greatest but I must confess his tolerantattitude to Mad Max does surprise me a little.
alan burden, mijas pueblo, España
these whinners need to take a chill pill and get a life!
Chacho, London, United Kingdom
What the man does in private is up to him and no only else to judge.
Clive, Dartford, Kent
Insult to Jews? What total and utter crap. Since when was role playing and indulging in fantasies a crime? Anything we do there is some special interest group bleating about some purported insult to someone. Get on with your lives and let him get on with his.
Billy Barnett, HK,
Maybe somebody should raise the question of who has organized this set up.
I don't go to these kind of places regularly, but I'd think they don't normally have cameras to inmortalize the those glorious moments...
David Font, Wokingham, UK
67 years old and able to spend several hours indulging in sado-masochistic sex? Got to admire the guy, really.
eddie foster, mirthios, crete, greece
Leave the guy alone!..He should be entitled to enjoy his leasure time in peace!....Now ...What was the name of the place he visited?
David Murphy, Chengdu,Sichuan Province, China
Has Ferrari been aware of Mr. Mosley´s inclinations before this broke? That might explain some of the Mr. Mosley´s decisions in the past regarding Ferrari...
Antti, Helsinki, Finland
Although amusing, it has nothing whatever to do with motor sport. The so-called Nazi connection is too silly to be worth discussing. Let him who is squeaky clean, cast the first stone!
Thomas Goodey, Cuxton-upon-Medway, UK
What is it about the British upper-classes and their predeliciton for kinky sex? Must be all the in-breeding.
Sally, Sydney, Australia
I bet Ron Dennis is loving this!
Jonny Wright, Altrincham, Cheshire
Talk about bringing the FIA into disrepute. His position is surely untenable. How can he make any proclamations or act in his usual sanctimonious manner after being caught doing this? I'm sure some people will stick up for him, but what does that tell you about them?
B Cave, London,
Ironic really isn't it? A different kind of spying scandal.
Richard Williams, London, Gr London
