The JPOTC is a member of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC) located in Canada.

The JPOTC is very proud to assume the responsibility of training and qualifying military personnel as UN peacekeepers. So far the center has trained over 66.000 servicemen from Jordan and other countries. The center is also very committed to providing the best training environment possible for those who have been chosen to help maintain peace and security around the world.

HISTORY

The JPOTC was established after deploying 14 UNMOs to Angola in 1989. That was the first time JAF exposed to UN peacekeeping missions. After the JPOTC’s humble beginnings, the Institute expanded rapidly as the requirement increased to train more soldiers for similar operations as Jordan became more heavily involved in peacekeeping missions.

His majesty late King Hussein paid close attention to this role, that reflected the Jordanian vision to be actively engaged in securing regional and international peace and security. His successor King Abdullah II continues to support.

At the beginning, training at The JPOTC focused on pre-deployment training for Jordanian units before they are to be deployed on various UN mission areas. After that, the training was expanded to other more specialized training for officers. Following our worldwide operational success, a new training strategy was developed providing course participants with the necessary skills to work professionally and efficiently in this new peacekeeping environment.

OVERVIEW

Expanding the Institute's capabilities further was our only way forward. Therefore, The JPOTC quickly enhanced its courses and expertise and became a regional centre of excellence. The Institute is one of a kind in the Middle East. The JPOTC built close cooperation with the United States Enhanced International Peacekeeping Capabilities (EIPC) and The Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) programs. New training facilities were built along with improved course material covering the myriad the United Nations peacekeeping sphere of influence.
