“Stick it to the TOM” on Slow Art Day – April 12

The TOM invites you to participate in the second annual  “Slow Art Day”.  This year, there are over 180 venues worldwide who will be participating – from Adelaide, Australia to Yountville, California.  Given the high speed pace of daily life, “Slow Art Day” offers the opportunity to slow down, reflect and interact with artworks and museum collections. On April 12th “Stick it to the TOM on Slow Art Day” visitors will be provided with post it notes and pencils and we’ll be asking you to write down your responses to the works on view and let us know what you think of them.

Tom Thomson

Tom Thomson (1877-1917) grew up in the Owen Sound area and went on to become one of Canada’s most influential artists.  He inspired the formation of “The Group of Seven” through his expressive, colourful and vibrant way of portraying the Canadian landscape in the early twentieth century.  The Tom Thomson Art Gallery has a significant and intimate collection of his work; most of it having been donated by family members. The majority of it is on view in our ongoing exhibition Canadian Spirit: The Tom Thomson Experience.
