Tatmadaw charges activists, public figures for crimes against the state

The Tatmadaw have charged seven high profile individuals for crimes against the state or public tranquility.

Singer Lin Lin, author In Sein Aung Soe, former NLD member Myo Yan Naung Thein, social media personality Ei Pan Sel Lo, presenter Mg Mg Aye and 88 Generation Students' leaders Ko Min Ko Naing and Ko Jin Me were charged under Article 505(b) of the law by the State Administration Council.


The article states that whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report, with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against public tranquility, shall be punished with imprisonment of two years or fined, or both.

The seven were accused of exploiting their public image and using social media to post topics and conservations which could damage state law and order, according to the Tatmadaw True News Information Team.


The military government has issued warrants for their arrests and is urging members of the public to inform the relevant authorities with any knowledge on the seven's whereabouts.
