Since the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park, players have had a chance to earn a spot in the 2021 field

For the third time in his career, Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday.

With the PGA Championship set to tee off next Thursday at Kiawah Island's Ocean Course -- where McIlroy won in 2012 -- the timing for his 19th career PGA Tour win could not have come at a better time.

McIlroy fired a final round of 3-under 68 to defeat runner-up Abraham Ancer by a stroke and secure his first win in one year, six months and six days -- the second longest drought of his career.

Now the four-time major winner (including two PGA Championships) will head to Kiawah riding high on confidence.

McIlroy's first career PGA Tour win came at the 2010 Wells Fargo Championship. He won it again in 2015 and Sunday's triumph made it the first time he's won an event on the PGA Tour more than twice.

The PGA Tour heads to McKinney, Texas this week for the AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, the final event before the season's second major.

Here's a look at the players who have already entered into the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island next week.

That list includes 15 PGA Champions: Keegan Bradley (2011), Jason Dufner (2013), Jason Day (2015), John Daly (1991), Phil Mickelson (2005), Padraig Harrington (2008) Martin Kaymer (2010), Brooks Koepka (2018, 2019), Rory McIlroy (2012, 2014) Shaun Micheel (2003), Collin Morikawa (2020), Vijay Singh (1998, 2004), Justin Thomas (2017), Jimmy Walker (2016) and Y.E. Yang (2009).

Additionally, since the calendar turned to 2021, Harris English (Sentry Tournament of Champions), Kevin Na (Sony Open in Hawaii) and Si Woo Kim (The American Express), Patrick Reed (Farmers Insurance Open), Daniel Berger (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am), Max Homa (Genesis Invitational), Branden Grace (Puerto Rico Open), Matt Jones (Honda Classic), Billy Horschel (WGC-Match Play) and Hideki Matsuyama (the Masters) have punched their tickets to the 2021 PGA Championship.

Dustin Johnson, Jim Herman, Jon Rahm, DeChambeau, Stewart Cink, Hudson Swafford, Sergio Garcia, Martin Laird, Jason Kokrak, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Gay, Carlos Ortiz and Jordan Spieth won on the PGA Tour in 2020, following the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park, and earned a spot.

Winners of PGA TOUR co-sponsored or approved tournaments, from the 2020 Wyndham Championship through this week's AT&T Byron Nelson, are eligible to compete. A total of 151 players have officially joined the field.

DeChambeau and Rahm finished in the top 15 at TPC Harding Park in August and already earned a spot in the 2021 PGA Championship. The top-15 finishers and ties from the 2020 PGA Championship automatically qualified for 2021.

PGA Lifetime Member Omar Uresti, winner of the 2021 PGA Professional Championship, will lead the top-20 finishers from that Championship to Kiawah.
