Creating an Environment for Success, a Nashville nonprofit that provides entrepreneurial educational programs to disadvantaged youth, received $14,000 grant from the Staples Foundation for Learning Inc., a private foundation created by Staples Inc.

The nonprofit's officials say funding from Staples will support the Youth About Business Summer Camp, which offers an entrepreneurial approach to learning by exposing youth to business theories and principles taught by business professionals from financial, legal, human resources, marketing and technology.

Officials say Youth About Business Summer Camp inspires low-income students to gain hands-on experience in business by spending one week at a university campus learning business trends and best practices and concluding their study with a visit to Wall Street.

The program introduces youth to the business setting and allows them to develop mentoring relationships with executives in the field.

Creating an Environment of Success was established in 1992 as a financial-literacy and career-preparedness program for underserved youth. Youth ages 10 to 18 learn about business and participate in the management of several small companies, including a thrift store.

Founded in 2002, Staples Foundation has contributed nearly $12 million to charities that provide educational opportunities and job skills with an emphasis on disadvantaged youth.
