KIAWAH ISLAND—Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the PGA Championship.

The PGA of America said in a statement that Singh cited a back injury as the reason for his WD.

Singh, 58, is far removed from being a full-time PGA Tour player. However, he had a spot in the field thanks to lifetime exemptions from PGA Championship wins in 1998 at Sahalee C.C. and 2004 at Whistling Straits. Though Singh has four other top-10 finishes at this championship to go along with his titles, he has not finished inside the top 20 since 2009. Singh has not competed at the PGA since 2018.

Taking Singh’s place in the field at Kiawah’s Ocean Course is Wyndham Clark. Clark is currently 56th in the FedEx Cup standings and is coming off a T-39 finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson. This will be Clark’s second appearance at the PGA Championship; he missed the cut at last year’s event at TPC Harding Park.

Brandon Hagy is now listed as the first alternate.
