Swachh Survekshan 2020, commissioned by the Ministry of Urban Development, is the world’s largest cleanliness survey. A total of 4242 cities were covered in a time-bound duration of 28 days.

New Delhi: Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday announced the results of the annual survey of cleanliness, Swachh Survekshan 2020, at the virtual event ‘Swachh Mahotsav’. Madhya Pradesh’s Indore was adjudged India’s cleanest city for the fourth year in a row. The second and third positions in the category were grabbed by Surat and Navi Mumbai respectively.

Swachh Survekshan 2020 commissioned by the Ministry of Urban Development is the world’s largest cleanliness survey. A total of 4,242 cities were covered in a time-bound duration of 28 days. It is a completely digitised and paperless survey.

Puri congratulated Jalandhar Cantt for being the cleanest cantonment in India in the fifth edition of the survey. The ancient holy town of Varanasi is rightfully the cleanest town on the banks of river Ganga, the Minister said in a tweet. "Heartiest congratulations to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, who represents the city in Lok Sabha, for his visionary leadership which has inspired the people of the town for this achievement," the Minister tweeted.
