How can a kid make money?
To make money as a kid you first need a plan. Here are the steps you should take.
1. Set a goal.
Decide how much money you want to make. Are you looking to buy one thing or do you want to have money to spend each month? This will help you determine what idea you should try.
2. Brainstorm ideas.
If your parents aren’t okay with your idea it won’t happen so brainstorm with them things you could try. There are over 200 ideas throughout this article so you can find great ways to make money as a kid right here.
3. Research your idea.
When researching the idea, find out what resources are needed, what the cost of doing business will be and, finally, what to charge. That way you can make sure you’ll actually make money.
4. Decide how you’ll get people to buy.
This is called a sales and marketing plan. First, start by writing a simple pitch. Include the following: name, business name, the reason you want to make money, the benefit the product or service will provide, proof that others have used the service (even if that’s your parents, as the first customer!), plus a call to action.

There are only two rules to becoming rich as a kid. Rule #1 buy or create assets. Rule #2 avoid liabilities. Assets are things that put money in your pocket and liabilities take it out. As a kid, you can invest in stocks and mutual funds as long as your parents help you set it up. A cool app I found is called Stash. You can begin investing as little as $5 dollars. You must be 18 or older but that’s where your parents come in.
3. Start a real business.
When I started writing this I was going to say you can’t become rich by starting a lemonade stand. Well, that’s not true because I interviewed two kids who created a real business out of selling lemonade. They made enough money one summer to buy a car and they weren’t even old enough to drive it.
Instead of selling their lemonade in there front yard they sold frozen lemonade at community events and made bank. You can start a real business by mowing lawns, babysitting or pet sitting. You just have to run it like a real business.
4. Rent your stuff.
Have you ever wanted to buy a paddleboard or a kayak? Generally, something like this would be a liability, (something that takes money out of your pocket) however, if you rent your paddle board at the beach it becomes an asset. Do some research to learn what things you can rent. Then start saving your money or maybe you could get it as a birthday present.

There are tools and equipment that can allow you to make money. A few ideas would be a wire stripper, a Cricut, and a button maker. All of these tools can be used to make money. 1. Start a Website
If you are looking for a long-term way to make money as a kid, starting a website is a great way to do it. One of my goals for building this is to help kids and teens start an online business so that by the time you graduate high school you won’t need a job. 2. Become A Youtuber
There are literally thousands of kids and teens making great money on Youtube. You can too. You can do product reviews, challenges, eSports, or even vlogging. 3. Online Surveys

4. Build an Audience
How big is your following? All social media platforms have some kind of follower or subscriber. Did you know you can make money from your following??? You can. Crazy right. The larger the following you have the better, so start proactively learning how to grow it.

Everyone is an expert at something. Yes, even you. As a kid, I raised and sold baby rabbits. I could have easily created a course on how to raise and sell baby rabbits and sold it. At 13 you can’t get a job. So what do you do? Be creative and hustle. There are so many ways to make money as a 13 year old that I have only scratched the surface with over 200 ideas. The common ideas of mowing lawns, babysitting, and doing a lemonade stand work but here are 7 creative ideas that will blow those out of the water.
1. Do a Soda Stand.
The only reason adults buy lemonade is that they think kids are cute. Why not sell something they can’t buy anywhere else but crave? Selling mixed soda drinks is the rage these days and you can make a lot of money selling them. Simply mix half and half into a coke and you have a dirty coke that will sell for $3 to $4. 2. Host a Kids Club.
Babysitting is great but you can only watch one family’s kids a night. What if you could watch five families’ kids in one night? You could make so much more money. The cool part is you can! Contact all the families you would normally babysit and say you are holding a Kids Club.
Basically, it’s a mini summer camp but just for Friday night. That way the parents can drop their kids off to go on a date and you can watch 10 to 15 kids all at once. Plan fun engaging activities to keep the kids busy and the time will fly. Instead of making $20 a night you can make up to $150!
3. Start an online business.
Chances are pretty high that spend a good amount of time each day on social media. Instead of seeing what your friends are up to grow a following. Whether you are on Instagram, Youtube, Musically, or Snapchat you can make money if you have enough followers. 4. Sell free fruit.
My brother just made over $1200 selling grapefruit and oranges that he got for free. No matter where you live, people have fruit trees that they don’t want to pick. The fruit will end up just falling on the ground and become a mess they need to clean up later. They would love if someone like you would come over and pick their fruit. Then you can turn around and sell it to family and friends and even at farmers markets.
5. Paint address numbers on curbs.
I know a couple of kids who do this every summer. The go door to door and ask people if they want their address painted on the curb. They charge $20 a pop and do it until they make enough money to buy their new skateboard or shoes. You can do it too. Here is their video of them actually doing it.

House Sitting– While people are out of town you can offer to stay at their home and make sure everything is taken care of. Often this involves taking care of pets and plants. You can also just come by the home every day to make sure everything is kept up and secure.
Handyman– Homes need constant maintenance. A Handyman fixes anything around the house. Unclogging toilets, repairing a floor, fixing a hole in a wall are just a few examples.
Window Washing– Most homeowners rarely wash their outside windows. They can get very dirty and homeowners would love to hire out this sort of work. You can offer to clean windows outside and when you agree on a price, you can upsell them to do the insides as well for an additional fee. Don’t be afraid to approach local stores as well. All you need to start up is some window cleaner, a cloth (or an old T-shirt) and a squeegee.
House Cleaning– Homeowners rarely find time to really deep clean their homes. Deep cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc can really help a person out. Getting behind fridges and thoroughly cleaning baseboards all need to be done periodically in every home.

Peephole Installer- People like to see who is knocking on their door. It is easy to learn how to install peepholes and they are inexpensive to buy. Ask your customers what height they want it to be installed at. Install peepholes up high for adults or down low for kids.
Animal Control– Many yards have rodents like gofers, mice, rats, squirrels, weasels, and raccoons. Homeowners pay a ton of money to have them removed. If you learn how to do this safely, market yourself to the neighborhood to let them know that you are the go-to guy for rodents.
Carpet Cleaner– Carpets need to be cleaned about every 6 months. If you want to solicit your services doing this, rent or buy a carpet cleaner. You could do it room by room, or even just spot clean an entire house. If you rent the machine, try to set up several homes that day to maximize your profit.
Paint Fences– Wood and metal fences need to be painted or they will rot/rust. Paint fences to keep them looking good. People are willing to pay to maintain their properties. If the people you ask are renters, ask for the landlord’s number to ask them.
Paint Home Exterior– Stucco and wood siding homes need to be painted every few years to stay looking nice and to prevent rot and decay.
Epoxy Paint Garage Floors– Oil spills will stain concrete. Epoxy painted garage floors will keep them looking nice and easy clean up. Offer to paint the garages in your neighborhood.

The easiest way to make money as a kid is to sell things you can get for free. Here are a few really easy ideas.
1. Sell golf balls.
Recover golf balls at golf courses in the tall grass, trees, and bushes. Golfers lose tons of golf balls, especially golfers like me. I have found buckets and buckets of golf balls. Wash them and sell them back to the golfers. Learn more about how to sell golf balls.
2. Strip wire scraps.
Collect wasted copper wire from constructions sites or from electrical contractors, strip and sell to metal salvaging companies. You can make a lot of money doing this.
3. Recycle metal.
Collect aluminum cans, copper wire, or other metal and recycle for money. To learn more click here.
4. Metal detecting.
Use a metal detector in parks and public places to find coins and rings and sell them to ring stores.
5. Find bugs.
Find caterpillars on milkweed and put them in cages. Sell the bugs in cages.
6. Raise spiders.

I had a kid in my neighborhood make a bunch of brownies and no one bought any so he lost money. He also didn’t go door to door that is a lot more direct way to sell and you will sell a lot more that way.

Yeah I agree selling candy at school is a classic. Kids always have lunch money and would rather eat candy then school lunch. Go figure. Make sure not to sell candy during class. It is easy just go buy a big box of candy at Costco and calculate how much each candy costs you. Then you can up the price when you sell it at school so you make a profit. You might want to sell your candy for even numbers so you don’t have to be a cash register.

You should be able to find a good idea from this list. It is often easier to know what you can’t do then what you can do. Copy this list or download the list for free and start crossing off all the ideas that won’t work for you. You should be left with a couple good ideas. Then you just have to start trying. If one idea doesn’t work then try another. Do this until you meet your goal of making $700 in 4 months. Also, since it is a mission trip you might consider making a Gofundme campaign.

Go door to door to pre-sale some baked goods. Take orders and then go bake everything and get paid when you deliver them. You can always go do some kind of service.

hi, i was reading through and I saw this, one of my friends made money by starting a tye dye servise. you can get tye dye pretty cheap or make your own and you can either tye dye stuff like socks, headbands, shirts etc yourself and sell them or have people provide their own clothing. she charges 4 dollars to tye dye socks, 7 for shirts and 2 for headbands. you could also buy a bulk of candy from somewhere like sams and sell it at school or you could make and sell your own bracelets or headbands. hope this helps you get some ideas!

What about creating beat music? I downloaded this app called drumbit, and I have been using it for about a month now. My work career began at twelve years old. I pulled in about $5,000 that first year so I was able to offer a rock solid resume to steadily build my own business(es) throughout my life. The first endeavors that I chose were … (1) delivering prescriptions with my Dad. He was the driver and I was the runner. He was paid for the delivering and I was able to keep the tips. (2) The neighbors across from me had a printing press and they imprinted calendars for businesses. I would sell the unimprinted overstock door to door in winters and made .50 cents from each one. (3) I babysat a little boy when his parents would go out; (4) I used to shovel show in winters and mow lawns in summer. I may not be Steve, but I can help. I am only 13 and get this struggle, though I am in high school (I skipped 3&4) and use my phone a little more. I got a Hamilton ticket last week for 900 dollars, with the money raised in a month. The best way I made the money was after I had a talk with my parents about getting paid to do chores for them, as well as getting paid for watching my younger siblings. I now have a system where if I do work around the house for an hour, I make five dollars. If the job is harder, my parents give me an extra dollar or two. Work for fifteen minutes is a dollar. I find this system easy, especially since an hour a day gives you 35 dollars in a week. I do not have an allowance, so it is not added on overall. As an eleven year old, I never had a phone, so you may not need one as fast as you think, but if you really want one, suggest a similar system to your parents. Good luck!

I just got my first guitar about two years ago and ever since have been engrossed in making music. I was considering making a small recording room, considerably out of a shed. I’ve looked at prices and they tend to not cost too much but I still know my parents wouldn’t fund it. I’m looking to make around $3000. How much is your budget right now? Do you have any skills? Perhaps lets take your guitar. If you have a budget now of 300 dollars, I would buy a blue yeti microphone, audio interface, and two foam pads. Then, I would go into a walk in closet, a closed off area, or while your family isn’t home, create music. I personally write and sell my writings, and I have make atleast 4,000 dollars (keep in mind, I am twelve!) off selling writing, and doing other small things, but mainly writing of Fiverr.

Resell free stuff off Craigslist, you most always find stuff. Ask parents to rent a truck or if family has one use it and spend a good weekend and you can easily make 5 grand.

As a 16 year old, near impossible. You can make a decent amount if you are committed and get a job every summer and ideally have enough money that your parents will trust you enough to buy it for you themselves and expect you to pay it back.

What skills do you have? Are you a good coder? Actor? Fiverr is a really good website to make money as a kid. I write and edit papers on that site, and I am only 12! If you work hard enough, you can probably make upwards of several thousand dollars a month, if you work hard enough, get good reviews, don’t slack off on jobs assigned to you, and get it done!

Hey Steve, it’s me again, the one talking about animation design. I found an even better job which you mentioned- reselling on shopping sites from free stuff. Using letgo, I am starting a full luxury watch collection- no parental help needed! I am only 12 yet close to getting a Rolex submariner! If you spend time looking for good resellable products, use your dad’s truck or pay for a rental and have your parents or siblings drive(to ship of course) you can make thousands of you work hard enough. A good way to sell once you have the items is not JUST selling from Craigslist or letgo- do that, and do a yard sale here and there, scrap some metal from broken stuff, and if you sell all products correct, all of you can easily make your goal come true-born wether it be a new car, gaming pc, or heck, maybe just some savings. “Catch and sell lizards as pets.”
First, you don’t “catch” wild lizards, or other animals, for that matter. It’s most likely illegal, and rightfully so. It’s not humane for the lizard, as most “kids” don’t know the first thing about keeping reptiles and just assume it’s like rabbits or something, which it’s not.
Second of all, wild-caught reptiles are not “pets.” They’re wild.
Third, there are way too many reptile breeders out there, and too many reptiles are suffering because of it. Don’t bring another one into the world if you only want to sell it. The world doesn’t need another reptile breeder.

of course you can get stencils of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and a stencil of a rectangle that is the size of the curb on the street, go around peoples houses that have no house numbers charge ten bucks to spray paint the white rectangle, then use stencil to do house number boom in 2 minutes you made ten bucks. do that in your neighborhood and get your parents or bike to the next neighborhood, within a week (given that its summer time or winter break) you can have that nice new gaming laptop, the brand new iphone, or be able to go off on that cruise.

First, I’m definitely not going to do anything around my neighbourhood because it’s quite a bad one and interacting with other people there is only going to make everything worse for me. I’m not sure if food/drink stands and breeding and selling animals are legal in the UK, even if it was legal nobody would buy from me since I’m 12.
