Linen is a classic fabric. It is comfortable to wear and exudes sophistication. What’s more, it is an all-weather fabric. But Linen is also a delicate fabric. So, care must be taken while washing your linen garments.

Given below are some tips on how to wash linen to make them last longer.

1) Choose Gentle Setting

You can machine wash your linen garments but ensure that you do not toss them in the machine with your regular laundry. Wash your linen separately. And choose a gentle cycle, like the one we use for woolen clothes. Gentle cycles generally include a short wash cycle. Prolonged wash cycle can shrink your linen garments.

2) Read the Care Label Instructions

Choose the water temperature as per the instructions on the wash care label of your garment. Generally cold water is ideal for washing linen clothes.

3) Let Linen Dry Naturally

As soon as the machine cycle is done, lay out your linen garments on the clothesline. Leaving the wet linen clothes in the machine’s tub will make them appear creases and worn-out.

4) Hand Wash Delicate Linen

If your linen garment has embellishments or intricate hand work, you must consider hand washing your linen clothing items. If you prefer to hand wash your clothes, you can use a detergent powder such as Surf Excel Easy Wash. It is easily available in the market. You can also use a fabric conditioner to keep your clothes soft and fresh. You can use a fabric conditioner such as Comfort Core. It is easily available in the market. 5) Seek Professional Help

Like silk, some of even linen garments are passed on from one generation to another. If the garment has such high value to you, send it over to the professional dry cleaners.

Linen is made by combining natural flax fibers with cotton. It is breathable and soft on your skin. Of course, it needs maintenance too. Washing your linen trousers in the washing machine on a normal cycle can end up ruining it. Intense agitation and snagging of the garment against the machine drum during the wash cycle can cause it to lose its shape. To avoid the shrinkage of your linen garments, keep the tips given above handy.

Do not cram your washing machine drum. Your linen garments need space to move around during the wash cycle. If you add excess load, the garments will snag against each other and get tangled in one giant knot.
