As they (the ethereal “they”) say, fortune favors the bold. And on this week’s The Braid Up, we’re going all out with *drumroll, please* flame-orange feed-in braids. Our hair-braiding guru, Stasha Harris, shows us how to get hair that’s hotter than the fire from Khaleesi’s dragons.

Ready to try out this look? Here’s everything you need to know before you get started:

1. Your parts are everything when it comes to braiding, especially for this style. The key to making sure your parts are sharp? A rat-tail comb. Its fine teeth make it easy to part sections cleanly.

2. Edge control is a major key. Trust me, you literally can’t use enough of it—it’ll keep your parts and edges sleek. Try Hicks Total Transformation Edges Styling Gel or Shine n Jam Magic Fingers for Braiders Edge Control Gel for long-lasting hold without the flakiness.

3. Bold AF extensions are a must. Okay, so technically you can recreate this look with more natural-colored hair, but what’s the fun in that? Grab some orange hair extensions and keep braiding them into your hair until you’ve reached the length and thickness you want. Once it reaches your perfect size, you can stop adding hair and braid until the ends.

4. Keep frizz and flyaways under control to maintain your sleek style. Wear a silk bonnet or use a silk pillowcase at night to prevent any frizz from popping up while you sleep.

5. Don’t forget to keep your hair conditioned. Just because your hair is in a protective style doesn’t mean you shouldn’t condition it. Use a leave-in conditioner mist (I love the Cantu Shea Butter Hydrating Leave-In Conditioning Mist) to keep your hair from breaking or drying out while it’s braided up.
