A quick search for the #VSCOgirl hashtag yields over one million videos of people either proudly owning the aesthetic or mocking the trend.
In other words? The VSCO girl is the new Tumblr girl. In its heyday, teens that used to frequent Tumblr to share sad song lyrics while wearing ripped, denim cutoff shorts, plaid shirts, and always carrying their Canon cameras for content. Fast forward to 2020: the denim cutoff shorts are still a thing but you can't see them because the plaid shirts have been replaced by oversized tees à la Billie Eilish, and the Canon cameras have been replaced by Fujifilm cameras or disposable cameras.

Do you see a pattern? We sure do. Times change but being “basic” stays the same—which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
