Construction gets underway for new GDF SUEZ E&P; UK Aberdeen premises

21. Feb. 2013

The first steps were taken today for the construction of a new Aberdeen office for fast growing North Sea operator GDF SUEZ E&P UK Ltd. A groundbreaking ceremony took place with developer Miller Cromdale at the North Esplanade West site.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Cllr. George Adam, along with GDF SUEZ E&P UK Ltd Managing Director Jean-Claude Perdigues, and Miller Developments Chief Executive Phil Miller, made the ceremonial cut of the first sod to signal the start of building work on the five storey office.

GDF SUEZ E&P UK Ltd is taking a 15 year lease on the new building which will provide capacity for up to 200 people and will allow the company space to grow as it ramps up activity in the UK North Sea.

The company is currently split across three sites in Aberdeen; Union Plaza, Holburn House and City Wharf, and the new office will consolidate all the teams in one location from 2014 and provide 40,000 square feet of office space.

The company is operator of the Cygnus gas and Juliet gas fields in the Southern North Sea (SNS). Cygnus is the largest gas discovery in the SNS in the last 25 years and first gas is expected in late 2015. Juliet is a subsea tie-back development with first gas due in late 2013. The company also has an exciting portfolio of discoveries and exploration projects in the Central North Sea and West of Shetland.

Jean-Claude Perdigues, Managing Director at GDF SUEZ E&P UK, said: “We are rapidly becoming one of the leading operators in exploration and production in the UK Continental Shelf. We are focused on growing our business in the UK North Sea and committed to building on our Aberdeen presence since establishing our UK operations base in Union Plaza just three years ago. This new facility will bring all of our teams under one roof and provide the ideal hub to drive forward our operations from Aberdeen.”

Phil Miller, Chief Executive, Miller Developments, said: “Miller Cromdale is delighted to mark the beginning of works on the site of GDF SUEZ E&P UK’s new office building. We have been working closely with GDF SUEZ E&P UK over the past few months and are looking forward to delivering this prestigious office development for them.

“North Esplanade West is a prime office location offering views across the River Dee, and this latest development further complements the work that we have been involved in to regenerate the North Dee Business Quarter.“

The office will be built to achieve the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) “excellent” rate. It will be one of the first buildings in Aberdeen to achieve this rating under the 2011 scheme.
