Common Seasonal Allergies that Causes Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Eye skin is very delicate and gets affected fast due to lack of sleep, aging or water retention. The most common problems are dark circles, bags and wrinkles on the sides of your eyes. Some people inherit this from their family. In some people it is not so serious and can be removed with the help of some natural treatments. People are also not aware that seasonal allergies do play a negative role in triggering dark circles. They make the eyes puffy and watery and often lead to dark circles.

Following are some allergic causes of dark circles around the eyes:

1. Seasonal: Seasonal allergies such as food allergies, hay fever, cosmetic allergies and allergens from the workplace or home, cause dark circles. Allergies results in inflammation that expands the tiny blood vessels under eyes. As a result these swollen blood vessels rub against the thin skin of the eyes and dark color appears.  Blocked nasal passages also cause dark circles.  The veins from the eyes to the nose become dark and dilated. Flowers from certain trees cause allergies, especially in winter season. When you step out into the garden, pollen from the flowers of trees and plants flies in the air and cause allergies due to which you get dark circles. 2. Environmental Environmental allergies are one of the main causes of dark circles around the eyes. The allergies cause congestion that increases the blood flow to the nose. As the skin under the eyes is delicate, it creates a purple tint. It also enlarges the blood vessels around your eyes and creates a dark tint. People having allergies to the mold, dust, dander from cats and dogs don’t sleep properly and suffer from adrenal fatigue. Because of these reasons they get dark circles under eyes.  

3. Food: There are certain foods that can cause allergic reactions and contributes to dark circles. These allergic reactions vary from individual to individual. Some of the most allergenic foods include yeast, peas, chocolate, citrus fruits, mustard, sugar, peanuts, shellfish, egg whites, soy as well as wheat. You should prefer foods that are less allergenic such as grapes, lettuce, apples, rice, honey and broccoli. These allergic foods causes swelling along with dark circles. Sodium and potassium rich foods also cause dark circles. As sodium contains salt, it leads to water retention in the body, including your eyes. By consuming only moderate amounts of salt you can reduce puffiness from your eyes.

Natural remedies for preventing dark circles
Nasal congestion is another common cause of dark circles. Have you ever got your allergies evaluated by your doctor? You must have noticed that dark circles are more visible when you have allergies or have a cold. 

You can prevent dark circles by trying these effective natural remedies:

1. Cold compress: Cold water compresses can help reduce dark circles. Apply a cold compress on both the eyes. It helps to reduce inflammation. Place them for 15 minutes and sit comfortably to relax. You will observe that your dark circles have become light. 

2. Cucumber slices: Cucumbers are well known for its medicinal properties of skin care. The pulp is an anti - edematous solution that reduces swelling of the skin and helps in restoring the skin texture. Put cold slices of cucumbers on your eyes and let it be for some time. Then rinse your eyes with cold water. This is an easy way to reduce dark circles.

3. Allergy medication: Treat hay fever that is responsible for dark circles. There are allergy medications that are not sedating and it helps. Seasonal allergy problems can be effectively treated by taking over-the-counter medications. People with allergies are also a deficiency in folic acid, B6, folic acid and B12. A multivitamin may also help in such cases. You can also use a retinoic acid which is a vitamin A cream that is known by the generic name tretinoin. Apply it daily around your dark circles.
