The state of my hair is so hazardous, no Mason Pearson brush or protein treatment can save it. My only saving grace is to cover it up with a hat. But between pimple-inducing beanies and the omnipresent sailor hat (or baker's cap, or cabbie hat, or whatever Instagram's favorite headgear is called), very few stylish options abound. (And you can’t wear a beret without FEELING LIKE YOU’RE WEARING A BERET. I’m not that girl.) Thus began my search for a hat that checks off all the boxes (i.e., hides my mangled hair), shopped out for you a-head. Get it?

A full-brimmed classic, the bucket hat is the throwback du jour. It was seen on Marc Jacobs' fall runway, but can be copped in every color, material, and price point.

As far as we're concerned, the trapper hat with its signature ear flaps doesn't get enough love. It's so much warmer than your typical beanie, we don't understand why it isn't the go-to winter hat.
With a headband, you can keep your ears (and tragic hair situation) in check without succumbing to a full-on hat. The sporty version was seen on the Gucci runway, but we're in favor of this opulent number by Jennifer Behr.

Sure, cabbie hats are on their way out, but how about the classic newsboy cap in plaid? Or how about Gucci's bizarro version of the balaclava? Ahead, the "etc." section of winter hats that are on the brink of massive popularity.
