If you harbor secret fantasies of obtaining fashion world celebrity status without stalking The Sartorialist in a self-made feather headdress, we've got your first clue right here: Choose a hairstyle and stick with it--forever!

EXHIBIT A: Karl Lagerfeld The designer may have physically transformed by losing 90 pounds and finding a love for serious knuckle hardware, but one thing hasn't changed since he became a fashion world star--that gray ponytail! Check him out working in his studio in 1985 (left) and earlier this week (right). Icon status? Check.

EXHIBIT B: Anna Wintour We can't pinpoint exactly when the legendary Vogue editor started wearing Prada, but we can say she's been rocking her signature bob for as long as she's been in the limelight. Her darker version (left) is from 1989, while the blonder bob (right) was taken just last week at Wimbledon.

EXHIBIT C: Betsey Johnson She's almost 70 and still cartwheeling, but even more impressive is the fact that girlfriend has been rocking this piece-y blonde shag-ish cut for almost as long! The photo at left is 18 years old, while the one at right was taken just last year.

EXHIBIT D: Suzy Menkes She may be the world's best known fashion critic, with the best-loved bouffant (sorry, Snooki). A decade of difference (2002, left, 2012, right) can't take any of the oomph out of her poof.

EXHIBIT E: Valentino Okay, so his most recognizable physical characteristic is that sunny glow, but turns out Valentino has had his slightly-to-the-right quiff since 1970!

There you have it, aspiring style icons--get yourself a mohawk (or a ballerina bun, or a French braid) and rock the heck out of it! Which one is your favorite?
