Pencil vs. Camera-Middle School

Ben Heine got his break as an artist by sharing images of his artwork online and saw his work go viral. One of his most popular series are his Pencil vs. Camera drawings. Ben begins with a photograph and selects a section of the photo to transform with a paper and pencil, and then uses Photoshop to layer his drawing photo on top of the original photo.
Each student took their own or chose a one-point perspective photo to use as their background and applied Ben Heine’s unique process of adding an imaginative pencil drawing. This was a really fun project that allowed students to review their knowledge of drawing and shading with pencil as well as learn about Photoshop. This project demonstrates how digital tools can be used alongside traditional media to achieve some amazing visual effects.
