Socis Poll: 25% Of Ukrainians Prepared To Support Yanukovych For President, 20.5% To Vote For Tymoshenko (14:45, Monday, August 17, 2009)
According to a poll conducted by the Socis center for social and political studies July 24 through August 4, 25% of Ukrainians planning to come to polling stations at the upcoming presidential elections are prepared to support Party of Regions Faction Leader Viktor Yanukovych for president and 20.5% of those who will come to the polling stations in January 2010 said they will vote to make Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko the president of the country.
Ukrainian News learned this from the results of the poll.
Respondents were asked which of the candidates they would vote for.
Of those polled, 14.5% said they would vote for MP Arsenii Yatseniuk, the leader of the Front of Changes initiative.
According to the poll, 5.9% of Ukrainians would vote for Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn, 3.8% would give their votes to President Viktor Yuschenko, 3.7% to Communist Party of Ukraine Leader Petro Symonenko, 2.6% to Vitalii Klychko, the leader of the eponymous bloc, which has seats in the Kyiv city council.
Of those polled, 1.5% said they would support Svoboda Party leader Oleh Tiakhnybok for president, and 1.4% said they would vote for ex-governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Serhii Tihipko, and 1.3% said they would vote for independent MP Inna Bohoslovska.
As for the second round of the presidential elections, 26.1% of respondents planning to come to the polling stations said they would support Viktor Yanukovych and 24.4% said they would vote for Yulia Tymoshenko.
The poll was conducted among 2,000 respondents in all regions of Ukraine.
The margin error does not top 2.8%.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, according to a poll conducted by Socis in June, 22% of Ukrainians were prepared to vote for Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych and 14% of Ukrainians were prepared to support Yulia Tymoshenko at the presidential elections.
Experts have said the start of Yulia Tymoshenko's advertising campaign was the most effective of all other potential candidates for president.
