Ukraine's presidential candidates to be nominated from Oct. 20 to Nov. 6

2 October, 09:44 | Interfax-Ukraine
Nomination by parties of candidates to run in Ukraine's presidential election of Jan. 17, 2010, and self-nomination of independent presidential candidates will be allowed from Oct. 20 to Nov. 6, according to the schedule for the election process approved by the Central Election Commission and posted on its website.

Nominees must be registered by the Central Election Commission to be able to run. Nov. 9 is the deadline for submitting registration documents to the commission, which will have five days to decide whether to register a candidate or not.

Nominees who have been denied registration because the commission has found fault with some of their documents will be able to file a new registration application with corrected documents before Nov. 11.

Nov. 13 is the deadline for registration, and the commission must publish lists of all registered candidates in the Holos Ukrainy and Uriadovy Kurier newspapers before Nov. 15.

After registering a candidate, the commission must hand him or her an electronic database of the State Register of Voters certified with a digital signature.

Within three days of a candidate's registration, the commission must publish a declaration of their property and incomes on its website and in the same two newspapers.

The next day after their registration, a candidate will have the right to start an election campaign, which they must finish by midnight of the last Friday before the election, which is Jan. 15.

The commission has a deadline of Dec. 25 to approve the standard ballot paper for voting on Jan. 17 and the standard ballot for repeat voting. The ballots are to be printed by Jan. 9.

Publication in the media of candidates' ratings as obtained through opinion polls will be banned with effect from Jan. 2.

Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 17
